The Brew: The Border Bill That Borders on Baffling

By Al Perrotta Published on February 6, 2024

Happy Tuesday!

You’re especially happy if Ukraine means more to you than America’s border security. And that seems to include a good chunk of the U.S. Senate.

The Senate’s Border Bill That Doesn’t Secure the Border

What’s more disturbing? The details in the Senate’s “Border” bill or the underlying premise that they think the American people are dunderheads?

Here’s a bill that is being plugged as an answer to the border disaster. Yet has nearly four times as much money for other countries than it does our border security. “I love you, son.” “Really, Pop? Then why are you giving me a bike with no brakes and the kid across town a Corvette?”

Here’s a bill whose provisions for kicking illegals caught at the border out of the country only kick in when the average number of encounters with illegals for a week tops 5,000 people a day. Meaning, this is a bill that codifies into law allowing 1,825,000 illegal immigrants into our country per year. Like we’re too stupid to do the math.

Like we’re too stupid to realize that with CBP One, the DHS app for line-jumping migrants, the Open Border Biden administration can simply schedule in 4,999 illegals a day and call it a day.

Here’s a bill that puts the triggering of the enforcement provisions at the whim of the president:

If the President finds it is in the national interest to temporarily suspend the border emergency authority, the President may direct the Secretary to suspend use of the border emergency authority on an emergency basis.

Like we’re too stupid to realize the same president and Homeland Security Secretary openly ignoring current immigration laws will continue to do what they’re doing under the cover of the new law.

The good news? The American people aren’t stupid. They know there’s a right way and a wrong way to handle immigration. Their parents or grandparents or great-grandparents lived it. And giving $60 billion to prop up Ukraine’s president — and two million illegal immigrants a year a free pass into the country — isn’t the way. They know better and will say so.

The other good news? House leadership insists the bill is “dead on arrival.”

John Zmirak is writing a more detailed piece analyzing the bill as only he can. Keep eyes peeled for that!

Shocker! Texas Barrier Slows Illegals Traffic to a Trickle

This is so radical. Turns out if you put up a barrier that stops people from crossing, they won’t cross. You know that razor-wire Texas put up in Eagle Pass that the White House is going to court to tear down? It’s working. According to Gov. Greg Abbott:

“The deployment of this razor wire that has led to a massive reduction in inflow. … The area where we have occupied this park in Eagle Pass, Texas, that we put up the razor wire, there used to be 3,000 or 4,000 people crossing that area a day. For the past three days we’ve averaged just three people crossing that area.”

The barrier is working so well, Abbott says he’s planning to expand the effort.

Schumer’s Sick Pitch: Pass This Border Bill or Your Kids Will Be Sent to Die in Ukraine

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was sounding like a mobster yesterday, trying to squeeze out protection money. “Nice kid you have there. Shame if something would happen to him in Ukraine.”

Schumer suggested that if this “border” bill isn’t passed, which gives another $60 billion to Zelenskyy, American troops might well be sent to their deaths in Ukraine.

Tucker Carlson Hit for Being in Russia to Interview Putin

While we’re talking Ukraine war, let’s add what’s going on with Tucker Carlson. The journalist is over in Russia, apparently getting set for a sit-down interview with Vladimir Putin — what in the days of real journalism would have been called a great “get.”

(Meanwhile, our president won’t even sit down for the traditional cushy Super Bowl interview.)

Of course, Carlson is being dubbed a “traitor” by the likes of Adam Kinzinger for daring to interview Vladimir Putin.

Putin is such an evil mastermind, he’s got Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski fretting if he’s behind GOP opposition to the immigration bill. Could be. His tentacles are everywhere. Whispers around Baltimore are that he was behind the two Ravens turnovers that cost them the AFC Championship.

Prayers for King Charles

England’s King Charles is battling cancer, Buckingham Palace announced Monday. The type of cancer was not revealed, but the Palace says it was discovered during a procedure Charles was undergoing for a benign enlarged prostate.

The King’s public scheduled is on hold, but the palace insists he “will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.” The diagnosis comes weeks after the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton underwent major abdominal surgery and the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson was diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer.

In case you were wondering, Harper’s Bazaar reports estranged Prince Harry is heading over the pond to see his father in the coming days. Good. Look, Harry. We know goofing off in L.A. has its perks, the missus is desperate for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it stunk growing up as “The Spare.” But royal pains or not, your family is going through it. As all families go through it at times. And you’ve shown you’ve got the stuff to show up when it counts. (Just look at your military record.) From your former colonies, may 2024 be a year of healing for the royal family.
