The Brew: Nothing to See, Just a President Preparing to Be Arraigned

Happy Monday!

Gulp that Brew because we’ve got Holy Week and an historic week this week.

Pope Francis Presides Over Palm Sunday Services … After Leaving Hospital

Normally, “Pope Holds Palm Sunday Services” isn’t exactly top news. However, Francis presided over the Palm Sunday services yesterday in Rome, just one day after leaving the hospital. Francis had been hospitalized three days for bronchitis.

“Still alive,” he joked to reporters.

America is Fonzie … and Tomorrow We Jump the Shark

We start the week with a revelation. America is Fonzie of Happy Days fame. The coolest, the toughest, the sharpest, the strongest, able to make miracles happen with the snap of its fingers. He was #1.

Unfortunately, tomorrow we lace on the water skies and jump the shark with the absurd arraignment of Donald Trump. Does that mean we’re through, the signal that our relevance is over? Time to change the channel on us? I write about it in a story just up called “America is Fonzie … and Tomorrow We Jump the Shark.” Hope you will enjoy it.

The Latest on the Trump Indictment and Arraignment

Donald Trump leaves Florida today to head to his former home in New York to face arraignment Tuesday afternoon. That historic moment is scheduled to occur at 2:15 p.m. in Manhattan. He will not be handcuffed. Secret Service wasn’t going to let that happen no how.

Trump announced Sunday he’s giving an address from Mar-a-Lago tomorrow night at 8:15. Unknown is Trump will speak before or after the arraignment at the courthouse. Can you imagine Trump passing up the opportunity to throw down on the courthouse steps, with the whole world watching? I can’t either.

Except … as Fox News reports, the judge may put a gag order on the case, forbidding Trump from speaking about it. That should come as no surprise. Think of Big Tech silencing Trump on social media for two years after teaming with the FBI to thwart his re-election bid. Think of the J6 Committee not allowing Trump any witnesses or even committee members that could challenge the narrative.

Meanwhile, the D.A.’s office is allowed to leak with impunity. (A felony right there, according to Alan Dershowitz.)

Trump’s lawyer Joe Tacopina told CNN on Sunday, he “very much anticipates a motion to dismiss coming because there’s no law that fits this.” Somehow a state prosecutor has taken a misdemeanor and tried cobble together to make it a felony by alleging a violation of federal campaign violations. And the FEC said that doesn’t exist.”

Well, That’s a Miracle. Jeb and WaPo Both Down on the Indictment

This is a surprise. Like Elmer Fudd defending Bugs Bunny. Jeb Bush, who’s wanted no part of Trump since getting routed in the 2016 primaries, came to Trump’s defense the other day. The former Florida Gov. shredded the New York indictment of his former rival. Tweeted Bush, “Bragg’s predecessor didn’t take up the case. The Justice Department didn’t take up the case. Bragg first said he would not take up the case. This is very political, not a matter of justice.”

Here’s another surprise. The Washington Post editorial board on Friday was highly critical of the indictment. They warn “There is cause for concern, and caution ahead.” For one thing the legal strategy Bragg has adopted is novel and courts may regard it with skeptism.” The financial charge is “shaky.”

WaPo also notes that potential trouble for future presidents, “This prosecution is now bound to be the test case for any future former president.” And if it fails, will also damage any future prosecutions of Trump.

“Public perception and political strategy shouldn’t dissuade a district attorney from bringing a solid case, but neither should they persuade him to bring a shaky one. This prosecution needs to be airtight. Otherwise, it’s not worth continuing.”

This is not a surprise. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has, thus far, been silent about the indictment. His personal animosity toward Trump is no secret. But his silence on this legal farce and what the Biden Administration and radical prosecutors are doing speaks volumes. Now, it is possible McConnell is still recovering from his bad fall. So we can cut some slack. But he can’t sit this out.

While we’re on the subject of recovering Senators, John Fetterman is finally out of the hospital and will be returning to work after the Easter break.

Psaki and Poll Both Offer Warnings For Democrats

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki advises Democrats to “stay out of it,” that it’s not a time to “celebrate” or “brag.” Translation: “I’m smart enough to know this can backfire and bite us on the butt.”

In fact, a post-indictment poll shows more people in both the primary and general election are likely to vote for Trump as a result of the indictment. GOP pollster John McLaughlin shows Trump widening his lead in the primary against Ron DeSantis. But more wild, 33% of voters say they are more likely to vote for Trump because of this indictment, as opposed to 20% who say they are less likely.

So Why Did They Indict Trump?

Why did they indict Trump? Perhaps because he’s running against a guy who does this:

Yeah, well,” said the residents of East Palestine, “At least he showed up.”

Insanity: Pro-Trump Meme Creator Sentenced to Ten Years For “Election Interference.”

A pro-Trump meme creator named Douglass Mackey has been found guilty and faces a possible 10 years in prison. Assault? Battery? Throwing Molotov cocktails into cop cars during ANTIFA riots? No. He posted some memes during the 2016 campaign tell Hillary Clinton voters to vote into voting the wrong day. As if a million commercials weren’t running 24/7 with the right day. As if anyone would be fooled. For that prank, Mackey was convicted of “election interference” and sentenced to a decade in the slammer.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton herself spent millions and millions and millions of dollars to create the fake Steele Dossier, enlisting the DOJ, FBI, State Department, DoD, Russian spooks and the mainstream media to mislead voters into thinking Trump was a tool of Russia. No prosecution. No decade in the slammer.

In 2020, the FBI teamed with Big Tech to falsely label the Hunter Biden laptop false in order to give Joe Biden the election. No prosecution for election interference. No decade in the slammer.

If Lady Justice were a living woman she’d be institutionalized.

And really. We’re now putting people in prison for memes if they are from the wrong political party?
