Hysterical News Coverage Hides Liberal Hypocrisy … and Children Getting Hurt

By Mike Huckabee Published on July 29, 2018

The media have been so desperate to make sure you don’t notice the EU caving to President Trump on tariffs, North Korea starting to keep its promises and GDP growth surging to 4.1% that they’ve been filling the news this past week with hysterical trivialities.

The spin-o-rama reached its peak with the four-alarm headline scoop that a sleazy lawyer who’d just been caught telling a massive lie the very day before planned to give his word of “honor” that President Trump knew about a meeting where someone from Russia promised campaign dirt on Hillary – a meeting that took place nearly two years ago, that came to nothing and wasn’t illegal. And all this hot gas came from media outlets that yawned bigger than tired hound dogs at the news that Hillary’s campaign had funneled $10 million through a law firm to buy campaign dirt on Trump from Russians, which the FBI then got a FISA court to accept as “evidence” to spy on his campaign.  And they seriously wonder why people now prefer to get their news from Facebook, YouTube or Magic 8-Balls?

Well, here are two stories that were almost completely overlooked, yet when you put them together, they blow a gaping hole in one of the biggest midterm election narratives of the left.

Putting LGBTQ Rights Over Finding Homes for Orphans

First story: In an unprecedented ruling, a federal judge sided with the liberal leaders of Philadelphia who severed ties with Catholic Social Services, an adoption and foster care agency that’s been finding loving homes for orphans for decades. Why? Because the group refused to violate its religious beliefs and stop requiring homes for children to have both a father and a mother. The judge not only agreed that this was discriminating against lesbian and gay applicants, but actually lectured the Catholics on their own religion, claiming that forcing them to choose between giving up helping needy children or violating their religious beliefs about marriage and parenting does “not constitute a substantial burden on CSS’s religious exercise” or require them to express their “approval of same-sex relationships in contravention of Catholic teaching about marriage. This is not the case.” Wow, imagine being both a federal judge and the Pope!

In making the ruling, the court ignored the Supreme Court decision involving the Christian baker by finding that the mayor’s intolerant comments about Catholics were “irrelevant” because he’d cut off a non-Catholic Christian adoption agency, too. I guess if you’re an equal opportunity religious bigot, it’s not bigotry.

Lesson: To the left, promoting LGBTQ rights is more important than protecting religious freedom or finding homes for orphaned children.

Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act

Second, related story: Because of outrages like the one in Philadelphia, House Republicans introduced the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act. The Act would protect the right of faith-based adoption services not to be forced either to violate their sacred beliefs or give up helping needy orphans find homes. Bear in mind, the bill does not ban adoption by same-sex parents. Any agency that wants to arrange that, can. It just protects faith-based agencies from being forced to.

And what was the Democrats’ reaction?  They went ballistic. They savaged the effort to help faith-based adoption services stay in business as a “license to discriminate” against the LGBTQ community.

Their leader, Nancy Pelosi (last seen railing that the tax cut was going to cause millions of people to die) was typically understated, releasing a statement reading, “Republicans’ moral bankruptcy reached a sickening new low today. House Republicans chose to sacrifice the well-being of little children to push a bigoted, anti-LGBTQ agenda, potentially denying tens of thousands of vulnerable children the opportunity to find a loving and safe home.”

No, Nancy: that’s what you’re trying to do, by forcing hundreds of faith-based adoption services to go out of business if they don’t bend their religious beliefs to your political beliefs.

So Much for Carrying About Children

Allow me to remind you that these are the very same people who were recently going ballistic over the children of illegal aliens being separated from their parents. They would have us believe that that issue was all about their deep and overwhelming concern “for the children.” I thought I detected a whiff of hypocrisy when I kept hearing them denounce Republicans for “ripping children from their mother’s arms” after they’ve spent the past 40 years glorifying the right to rip children from their mothers’ wombs.  But now the stench of hypocrisy is overpowering.

Nobody is blocking any adoption agency that is not faith-based from placing children in LGBTQ households. Whether that’s a good idea or not is a separate debate. What Democrats are doing is part of a continuing crusade to expand LGBTQ rights by crushing First Amendment religious freedom rights. And if a few thousand needy orphans have to sacrifice their chance to find loving homes, hey: you’ve gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet, right?

Okay, we all get it, liberals.  You’ve shown us your priorities. Now, please stop insulting our intelligence by telling us that “what’s best for the children” is one of them.
