Texas Inmates Escape Jail Cell To Save Guard’s Life

A crew of Texas inmates recently broke from their jail cell — but not to make an escape.

Newly released surveillance video shows the June 23 incident, where an armed jail guard had an apparent heart attack, WFAA reports. The concerned inmates busted from their cell to help. Still wearing their shackles, the inmates made enough noise to attract the attention of the the other deputies.

In the video, the inmates can be seen breaking out of the cell, yelling and banging to draw attention. Deputies then arrive to save the Parker County contractor and usher the inmates back into the cell.

“We were worried they’re going to come with guns drawn on us,” Nick Kelton, one of the inmates, told WFAA. When asked why he saved the guard’s life, Kelton said, “He’s a good man.”

Paramedics were able to help the guard, who survived.

“They definitely saved his life,” Capt. Mark Arnett of the Parker County Sheriff’s Office told NBC News. “There’s no doubt about that.”
