Joy Break: Bullies and Bikers

By Nancy Flory Published on August 7, 2017

Our TVs and smart phones bombard us with news that brings us down. Where has all the good news gone? Those stories are still there. Here’s a story that we hope will brighten your day.

An 11-year-old from Indiana got a special escort by 50 new friends on his first day back to school this year.

When a group of motorcyclists heard that sixth-grader Phil Mick has endured bullying, and had thoughts of suicide because of it, they went out of their way to make sure he knew he wasn’t alone. Fifty members of the United Motorcycle Enthusiasts (UME) showed up to have breakfast with Phil and escort him to his middle school. Phil even got a special ride on a motorcycle.

Then the bikers circled up and prayed for Phil. β€œLord I ask that you make your presence known to Phil as he goes to school,” prayed one UME member. Phil now says he has a guardian angel watching over him.

Brent Morefield, director of UME, said that Phil will know they’ve got his back, should any more bullying occur. “We’re there for you Phil. Anything. If you need us, reach out buddy.”
