The Great Tolerance Ruse

America has been persuaded that tolerance is the supreme virtue, but it is not so.

If you still think tolerance is the desired goal of the new sexual regime in America, you are living in Fantasyland. Three recent news stories illustrate the fact that tolerance is a ruse. You. Must. Approve.

First, Dan Piepenbring’s whiny piece in The New Yorker about Chick-Fil-A. Like the entire “LGBTQ” agenda, he depends on the accusations of bigotry and homophobia. Let’s unpack this dishonest “homophobia” term. It’s flung at people as though it were a shameful scarlet letter. It distracts from the real target by hitting a fake one.

As a Christian, I have a healthy fear of sin. Sin is the death of my body and soul, so it behooves me to fear its destructive power and avoid it. The Scriptures, all of Christian tradition, and the natural law clearly teach that homosexual sex is objectively disordered and a sinful, harmful misuse of our sexual faculties. It is quite sensible then to have a proper fear of homosexuality, the same way I have a proper fear of all sexual sin.

The accusation, of course, is that anyone who doesn’t embrace homosexuality as a good thing is irrationally afraid of gay people. That’s homophobia. Hence it’s scary scarlet letter power.

Baloney. Are we guilty of adulterphobia if we don’t celebrate adultery? How about addictphobia if we don’t rave about addiction? If we don’t throw embezzlers a parade are we committing embezzleaphobia?

Reasonable people know it is healthy to have some fear of destructive behaviors. Christians ought to know that sin is nothing to be trifled with. And it’s not our prerogative to say this or that sin is no longer sinful.

But reason is unwelcome here. So are distinctions between the person and the actions. According to Piepenbring and the “homophobia” choir, if you object to the behavior or the lifestyle, you’re afraid of the person. Not just afraid — you’re a lousy bigot.

Accommodation is Not Enough

Next comes the news that an Army chaplain is being disciplined for declining to lead a marriage retreat that included a same-sex couple. A lesbian soldier filed a complaint against the chaplain, even though she and her partner attended the retreat without incident. The chaplain, Jerry Squires, rescheduled the retreat in order to allow another chaplain to preside and thereby accommodate the same-sex couple. The rescheduling meant that some of the heterosexual couples were no longer able to attend. But no matter.

“Evil cannot bear the counter-witness of truth. It cannot co-exist peacefully with goodness, because evil insists on being seen as right and worshiped as being right.” — Archbishop Charles Chaput

Still, it wasn’t enough. The chaplain had the nerve to refuse to deny his faith, and so he must be punished. Squires made sure things were rearranged to serve the same-sex couple, but still this Christian chaplain must be made to pay for his unwillingness to bow before the homosexual altar.

We Will Have Your Children

Finally, there’s the memo out of Orange County in California. See for yourself.

The Great Tolerance Ruse Memo

My, how generous of the Eminences of Education Indoctrination to deign that parents can still “advise their children” on matters of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation and such. They can’t prevent the State from “instructing” their children according to the dictates of “LGBTQIxyz”, however. They have no right to opt-out of this mandatory programming. They can only “advise” their children that Mom and Dad “disagree” with the State.

Tolerance is Not a Virtue

This is the intolerant regime that runs around screaming about tolerance, acceptance, love, and equality. This is the totalitarian madness that says the price for refusing them is your livelihood, your business, your home, your reputation, and whatever else you have. You will be punished and made to submit to “reprogramming” until you heel. If you still refuse, you will be crushed.

This is the regime that demands to have control of your children. The young ones will be formed to accept the madness as right and good. They will learn to reject and even permanently harm their physical bodies and believe only in feelings. They will be shamed out of their right reason until they submit. Parents, shut up and fall in line.

In Render Unto Caesar, Archbishop Charles Chaput writes:

Evil talks about tolerance when it’s weak. When it’s strong, real tolerance gets kicked out the door. This in turn explains a lot about our current cultural climate. To put it simply — evil cannot bear the counter-witness of truth. It cannot co-exist peacefully with goodness, because evil insists on being seen as right and worshiped as being right. Therefore, the good must be made to seem hateful and wrong.

I think America has been persuaded that tolerance is the supreme virtue, but it is not so. Charity, prudence, justice, mercy, honesty, chastity — these are true virtues. Fidelity to God’s laws about marriage and sexual conduct is not intolerance. It’s the only choice befitting believers.

Those who advocate for evil are not even remotely consistent. They demand that their choice of sexual lifestyle be respected, that no distinction be made between who they are and what they choose to do, and that children be taught to embrace the choices they’ve made, yet absolutely refuse to permit the reverse. Those of a Christian orientation are disrespected, there is no acceptance of the idea that a person and their faith are one, and exposing children to Christianity is considered abuse. A recent article elsewhere said that the West is dead. I’d say the corpse is sprinting towards Hell and refusing to accept any detours. Unless there is a revival, or a radical shift in direction, many of those in my generation will not have the opportunity to die of old age in their beds. 🙁

Menwhile teaches want to know why they don’t get any respect…when I have to advise my children that your teacher is mouthpiece for agenda driven propaganda they may or may not agree with and is likely to willfully mislead you; how exactly do they expect to enjoy my respect or that of my child? Teachers need to spine up and show some professional integrity not just parrot whatever they are told say when it’s not based in proven verifiable facts.

I don’t expect public educators to teach matters of faith but I do except them to teach matters of fact like there are two sexes. If they want to speculate things like gender may exist separate from sex and their could be more than two and maybe people can change or whatever they owe it to their students to acknowledge these are ideas that might not be true. If they don’t do at least that it’s not teacher it’s propaganda.

On “tolerance,” G.K. Chesterton noted that, “Tolerance is a virtue of a man without convictions.” What better describes a modern liberal than a “man without convictions?” Or, as C.S. Lewis and Trevor Grant Thomas put it, “An open mind, in questions that are not ultimate, is useful. But an open mind about the ultimate foundations either of Theoretical or of Practical Reason is idiocy.” More plainly put, one would have to be an idiot not to recognize that certain things are settled for all time.

Prof. Walter Kotschnig told Holyoke College students to keep their minds open—”but not so open that your brains fall out.”

“Fidelity to God’s laws about marriage and sexual conduct is not intolerance.“ it becomes intolerance when you try to deny others their rights using your gods laws.

Using three examples to paint a generalization of an entire group of folks, major fail. I can pull up examples of christians doing the wrong thing and it doesn’t pertain to all christians.

The author is just wrapped up in her own personal hatred of those who don’t fall in line with her idea of the christan way. Sad.

No one, no state, no government, no group, no school, has any right to impose on children the insanity that a boy can become a girl; that gender is “fluid”; that their physical bodies are meaningless and reveal no truth. This is totalitarian madness being imposed on our entire society. Young children are being violated with this utter nonsense. To oppose this with all our strength is not intolerance, it is our duty as rational, moral, responsible people.
No one has any right to tell a Christian pastor that he must disobey the commands of his faith in order to accommodate anyone’s sexual preferences.
John, these are not merely three examples. They’re just the *latest* examples, and they are absolutely representative of the “LGBTQxyz” agenda. This sexual regime will not tolerate anyone who doesn’t heel and obey.

Sounds more like christianity to me

        • Fr. John Higgins

It sounds like you don’t tolerate Christianity.

          • Phil Steinacker

Fr. John Higgins, it seems that lefty, atheistic, and sinful bigotry abounds here. Then grace must abound all the more?

      • Ken Abbott

Mrs. Hartline, did you notice what Dr. Connor said in his first paragraph? “It becomes intolerance when you try to deny others their rights using your gods [sic] laws.” Evidently Dr. Connor believes (contrary to the writer and the signers of the Declaration) human rights do not come from God, for if they do they cannot conflict with his laws, both coming from the same source. So from where do these rights come, if not from God? Answer that question and we will have come to the crux of the divide.

The call for tolerance of immorality and wickedness is a ruse. Nobody really believes it. There is no virtue in tolerance. Society does not tolerate theft or murder or stealing or telling lies. God does not tolerate evil. Why should He?
In a democracy we are called upon to tolerate differences of opinion and respect freedom of conscience. However legitimate tolerance does not embrace laws that shackle conscience, undermine the God-ordained biological family and corrupt our children. The State has no right to intervene between the parent and child on issues of moral education.

Fortunately, the average American student doesn’t pay much attention in class nor takes what they are taught very seriously.

I hear though that some kids were upset such as “will they turn into a transgender” which they didn’t want to happen.

  • Fr. John Higgins

Christians are NOT called to tolerate, but to LOVE! Loving someone does not mean that you approve of or accept all of their behavior.

  • cestusdei

They never wanted just tolerance. They were ALWAYS after the children. Wait till we see what the end game is…
