One of the most self-consciously “progressive” shows on television features female roommates who pursue serial, emotionally fraught sexual relationships and whose stories generally serve to validate a liberal cultural outlook.

I’m of course referring to The Golden Girls, which makes up the first half of the best late night lineup on television: The Hallmark Channel’s Golden Girls–Frasier block from 11pm to 3am. (Being something of a night owl, I’m well-acquainted with TV at this hour.) GG is good for a few real laughs and several big grins per episode — a better output than just about any comedy on TV today.
