Five Countries Clinton’s Cozy With That ‘Treat Women Like Animals’

By Published on June 4, 2016

Hillary Clinton said in a recent key foreign policy speech that the U.S. stands up to countries that treat women like “animals,” yet she has met with leaders from those countries and taken their money.

The Democratic presidential candidate’s speech was hailed as the most important foreign policy speech of her run so far, and was focused on countering presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s commentary on foreign policy.

“America stands up to countries that treat women like animals, or people of different races, religions, or ethnicities as less human,” Clinton said toward the end of the speech, leaving out the fact that she has cozied up to several countries with horrendous human rights records, even as Secretary of State.

Here are five examples.

Myanmar

Clinton visited the country three years prior as Secretary of State, and has claimed she helped foment democracy. Her visit, however, had little influence on the country, whose military has regularly been accused of using rape as a weapon. One woman named Roi Roi was kidnapped and brutally gang-raped by soldiers belonging to the Myanmar army last year. Since Clinton’s visit, Myanmar’s political prisoner population has actually increased, according to Human Rights Watch.

Syria

Clinton referred to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad as a “reformer” in 2011, while the Syrian crisis was in its infancy. That’s the same man whose government brutally tortured and threatened to gang rape an imprisoned female Syrian activist in 2015. The woman, known as “Farah,” said she was regularly electrocuted, and noted that other girls in her prison cell claimed they were raped by al-Assad’s forces.

Egypt

The Obama administration tacitly supported the Muslim Brotherhood regime led by Mohammed Morsi that ran Egypt after the toppling of dictator Hosni Mubarak. Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood colleagues were known supporters of female genital mutilation and used their power to “systematically” sexually harass women in Egypt. Clinton nonetheless met with Morsi in 2012, offering the administration’s “strong support” for the revolt that brought him to power.

United Arab Emirates

The Clinton Foundation has accepted millions from UAE elites, despite the country’s well-known human rights abuses. More than 146,000 female migrant workers in the UAE are involved in forced labor and trafficking, according to a 2014 Human Rights Watch report. Jennifer Dalquez, a female migrant worker from the Philippines, was sentenced to death by UAE courts in June 2015 after she killed her employer in self defense, because he was allegedly trying to rape her.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabian officials have publicly beheaded a woman in the street in broad daylight, and elites on at least one occasion hacked off the limbs of their foreign female indentured servants. While abuses like these were ongoing, the Clinton Foundation accepted $30 million from Saudi elites.
