Fifteen-year-old Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School soccer player Anthony Borges is still recovering in the hospital after heroically saving his 20 classmates by using his body as a shield during the Parkland shooting Feb. 14.

Borges is getting care after enduring five gunshots while bravely protecting his fellow classmates during Nikolas Cruz’s shooting rampage that killed 17 people on Valentines Day, the Daily Mail reported. Borges got a visit from Broward County Sherriff Scott Israel to show appreciation for the teen’s heroic act Sunday.

“Fortunately, he is recovering but has a long road ahead with more surgeries needed. Please join us in praying for the swift recovery of Anthony and all others,” the sheriff’s office tweeted, alongside an image of Israel holding hands with Borges, who is recovering in a hospital bed.

The Broward County Sheriff’s office added he is in stable condition. Borges’ family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for the teen’s recovery. The campaign raised $165,580 as of Monday. Borges suffered two bullets going through his legs, one in his upper thigh bone, and one bullet entered his back.

Cruz is making his second court appearance Monday. He is held without bond.
