The FAA Wants Drone Operators to Pay $5 to Register Their Toys

On Monday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration unveiled its not-long-in-the-works national drone registry. There are no major surprises here, except perhaps for the atypical speed with which the registry was devised and implemented. The registration requirement will go into effect Dec. 21, 2015: one week from today and mere months after the FAA first announced its plans.
