Joe Sinnott has had an enviable career: As an artist for Marvel, he drew some of the most iconic comic books of his time. But even with an already fulfilling workload, he still pursued work that was close to his heart.

Sinnott, a Catholic, penciled and inked a biography of Pope John XXIII as a passion project. The story was serialized and released in 1962. A complete version was never compiled.

Half a century later, a Kickstarter campaign has funded a complete, colorized re-issue of the comic book.
