Comedians Finally Get the Joke about Hillary Clinton

Perhaps the most telling indicator that Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is going poorly, apart from the FBI investigation into her emails, the symbolic power outages, her tanking poll numbers, and the fact that less than a third of registered voters find her “honest and trustworthy,” is the extent to which making fun of Hillary Clinton has finally started to enter the cultural mainstream.

At the very least, Hillary seems to be a more inviting target than Barack Obama for the mostly left-of-center humor industrial complex, which has in many ways allowed partisan politics to invade and corrupt comedy. Saturday Night Live got the ball rolling before Hillary officially announced her campaign. In a series of sketches earlier this year, Kate McKinnon portrayed the former secretary of state as a robotic, power-crazed maniac trying desperately to appear “relatable.” (It’s funny because we all know it’s true.) McKinnon later revealedthat she was “rooting for [Hillary], obviously” and finds her “so resplendent.”
