The Cold, Hard Truth about Planned Parenthood and the Fight to Defund It
Cutting through an aborted baby’s face to access its brain…while its heart is still beating… Crushing a baby’s body, while strategizing how to keep its organs intact… Selling body parts of dead babies…This is Planned Parenthood. This is what the Obama Administration is willing to shut down the government in order to continue funding.
It’s been over two months since the Center for Medical Progress released its first video revealing the horrifying and barbaric nature of Planned Parenthood. Since then, nine additional videos have surfaced that expose the truly atrocious practices of the abortion industry – and one thing is clear: women’s health is not Planned Parenthood’s top priority. It is also worth noting Planned Parenthood has not disputed the content of the videos.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t want Americans to know the facts. Planned Parenthood is America’s largest provider of abortions, which makes it the largest depriver of life. The organization performs one abortion every 90 seconds. Hundreds of thousands of annual abortions generate nearly 40 percent of Planned Parenthood’s clinic revenues.
American taxpayers are currently forced to fund this likely criminal organization, which barters and sells the body parts of unborn children. Selling the organs of unborn children for profit is a crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The organization also has performed more than a million abortions over the past three years, and its work accounts for nearly one-third of all abortions in the United States. But now, Congress has the opportunity to end government funding for Planned Parenthood.
For far too long, Planned Parenthood hides behind the guise that it provides women’s healthcare. Listening to the organization’s propaganda would lead one to believe Planned Parenthood is the only provider of women’s health services in many areas. The facts tell a different story. For every one Planned Parenthood location, there are 20 low-cost clinics offering far more encompassing women’s health services. Community health centers, charities, state health departments and other government entities all provide quality women’s health services. On average there is a clinic providing women’s health services within five miles of each Planned Parenthood.
If Planned Parenthood cares as much about women’s health as it claims, then the organization should support the effort to redirect money to women’s community health providers, who unlike Planned Parenthood, are actually held to hospital standards. Taxpayer dollars would be better spent directed to the more than 13,000 health centers and hospitals providing comprehensive women’s health care. And the majority of Americans agree.
