The Hayward police officer who was shot and killed during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning was a “well-respected” father of two girls, police said.

Sgt. Scott Lunger, 48, was a 15-year veteran of the force and a member of the SWAT team and gang unit, according to acting Hayward police Chief Mark Koller.
