Army Ranger Saves Drowning Child: ‘Please God, Let Me Save This Little Girl’

By Published on July 21, 2015

A U.S. Army Ranger says he went into “tunnel vision” and prayed for God’s assistance before saving the life of a drowning 6-year-old girl.

Spc. Luke Smith and two fellow members of the 75th Ranger Regiment ran to a Fort Benning, Georgia, pool party on July 11 when they heard cries for help. Sgt. Khali Pegues, Spc. Smith’s supervisor, said he knew the Ranger’s CPR training would likely be needed, the Defense Department reported Tuesday.

“We got over there and then I went into a tunnel vision,” Spc. Smith said, the Defense Department reported.

The Ranger went to work as soon as he realized no one else around had his skill set.
