‘I Will Fight Even Harder for Christians’ in Next Term, Trump Tells NRB Crowd

Former President Donald Trump spoke at the 2024 National Religious Broadcaster’s (NRB) Convention Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee, as part of the NRB Presidential Forum. It was the 80th anniversary of NRB. “There was no way I was going to miss this,” he told the crowd.

Trump began by telling the audience that unlike wars of the past, the greatest threat to America are people within our country. “We can handle China, we can handle Russia, we can handle all of them if you have a smart leader, but the inside people are very dangerous.” He said to achieve victory, just like in the battles of the past, “we still need the hand of our Lord and the grace of Almighty God. We have to have that.”

Trump said that there’s much work to be done, and we have to begin immediately. “The restoration of law and justice in America begins with firing crooked Joe Biden on November 5, 2024. If we don’t fire him, our country, I believe, is doomed.”

What He’s Done and What He Will Do

The former president reminded the audience of his accomplishments during his time in the White House. “We did things that, the likes of which nobody has ever done for Christians in this country,” he said. “And I’m very proud of that and honored by it. Just think of what, with God’s help, we already achieved in our historic first term.”

He also promised to fight against the woke culture. “I will also take historic action to defeat the toxic poison of gender ideology and restore the timeless truth that God created two genders, male and female. I will keep men out of women’s sports and I will sign a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation in all 50 states.

We Can’t Sit on the Sidelines

Christians, however, can’t afford to “sit on the sidelines,” Trump said. “They have to really get out there and they have to do what they have to do and they have to win. The corrupt persecution by this regime will not stop with me. Oh, it’s not going to stop with me. … The chains are tightening around all of us, if you think about it. I mean, the radical left is coming after all of us because they know that our allegiance is not to them. Our allegiance is to our country and our allegiance is to our Creator. They don’t want to hear that.”

Trump said he wants to defend Christians against the Left. “Remember, every communist regime throughout history has tried to stamp out the churches, just like every fascist regime has tried to co-opt them and control them. And, in America, the radical left is trying to do both. They want to tear down crosses where they can, and cover them up with social justice flags. But no one will be touching the cross of Christ under the Trump administration, I swear to you.”

No Doubt in the Minds of the Audience

Bunni Pounds, founder of Christians Engaged and contributor to The Stream, attended the event:

β€œIf there was any doubt in the minds of Christian ministry leaders who were in the room last night of whether they could make the case that the former President Donald J. Trump was going to champion in another term the issues that they worry about in the culture, that doubt should have left their minds after his over an hour speech concluded,” she told The Stream in a statement. “There is no doubt that even with his weaknesses that his commitment to the Christian and Jewish communities is strong and unwavering. On top of that, he has a past record of following through that those Christian leaders can look back on. He made a great case for his re-election last night that I am sure will be watched within the Christian community for months to come.”

Robert Jeffress, a long-time supporter of Trump, also weighed in on X. “President @realDonaldTrump’s address to the National Religious Broadcasters Convention was the most powerfully pro-Christian speech I’ve ever heard from any president. He will win the Christian vote in a landslide!”

“So, today I come before you as a friend, an ally and a fellow believer to ask for your help, and your support and your prayers for this country,” said Trump. “We need your prayers, most importantly. And I make you a simple promise. In my first term, I fought for Christians harder than any president’s ever done before. You know that. You know that. And I will fight even harder for Christians with four more years in the White House.”
