The Brew: The Democrat Trying to Impeach Trump Has a Bad Track Record with Beagles

Finnegan and Rayne Zmirak

By John Zmirak Published on April 30, 2025

If you’ve read my work here at The Stream over the years, you know that beagles have a special place in my heart. We have a complex relationship: I foster and rescue them, they make enough noise howling to get me evicted … rinse and repeat. I’ve written here before that I was white hot with anger about the beagles abused in Anthony Fauci’s research, a scandal which was bad enough that the White Coat Waste Project and Senator Rand Paul exposed it in Congress.

Now I see another canine horror story linked to another bad actor who’s harming America: Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who just filed impeachment articles against President Donald Trump for deportating illegal alien gang members.

As I sit here with Finnegan and Rayne (pictured above) gamboling around me, I’m wondering why the Democrats chose Thanedar as the spokesman for their sob stories about gang-banging illegal aliens being sent back to their countries of origin. Because on the face of it, Thanedar isn’t the obvious candidate to play on America’s heartstrings. Thanks to Revolver News for digging up these animal skeletons from Thanedar’s capacious closet:

There’s also a raft of shady-sounding business practices, which Attorney General Pam Bondi ought to be dragging out into the light of day — since the new rules set by the Democrats after 2020 include subjecting your political opponents to sharp legal scrutiny:

Sometimes I shake my head when I think of Democrats like Thanedar, Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, and mutter, “They’re not sending their best.” Then after a moment’s reflection I realize, “Actually, they are.”

What’s More Useless Than a Toupée on a Pig?

The answer to this ageless question appears to be: a Republican in Congress. At least a Republican like Sen. Chuck Grassley, as well as many of his colleagues. Even as Donald Trump has furiously issued executive orders to try to reimpose some semblance of order on a country brought to the brink by the lawless Biden administration, the GOP in both houses of Congress has acted like a bunch of college students on spring break — achieving virtually nothing.

It’s not just that they don’t have an overwhelming majority. Even on small procedural issues where they could act, they’re letting dusty old customs and outdated protocol get in the way of Trump’s vital priorities — which the voters endorsed in November. Politico reports:

Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley said Monday he won’t advance two of President Donald Trump’s U.S. attorney picks after they ran into opposition from one of their home-state senators.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said earlier this month he would not return his blue slip for Jay Clayton’s nomination to serve as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York or Joseph Nocella Jr.’s in the Eastern District.

The blue slip isn’t a Senate rule but instead a precedent that allows senators to effectively block the approval of nominees to U.S. district courts and U.S. attorney’s offices in their states.

Asked if Schumer’s objections meant that the two nominees won’t advance, Grassley said in a brief interview, “We’re going to honor the blue slip.”

Sorry, Senator Grassley, this isn’t a game of croquet played on the lawn at the senior center. We’re fighting for due process and honest law enforcement in the wake of a fierce federal abuse of law enforcement against Trump and his supporters. The rules of the old boys’ club no longer apply.

Democrats Say the Quiet Part Out Loud

We keep seeing news stories claiming that Elon Musk is on his way out the door, that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a nothingburger. Then the Democrats (again, sending their very best) do us the favor of documenting just how much DOGE is saving the taxpayers. By their account: $430 billion. Go check the “DOGE Tracker” yourself.

Thanks, guys. Between reports like this one and taking foreign trips to commune with foreign criminals Trump deported, you’re doing a lot more for the president than Chuck Grassley and company.

A Band-Aid for Our Crackpot Asylum Laws

Unless you’re an immigration policy wonk, you might not know that millions of the illegal aliens residing in America are sheltered behind our broadly written, lax, almost unenforceable asylum laws — which let illegals postpone deportation indefinitely if they’re willing to repeat the boilerplate language (given to them in scripts from Catholic Charities and other profiteering nonprofits) claiming there’s a “credible threat” against their lives in their home countries. That doesn’t require persecution by some dictatorial government. Remember that the alleged gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia avoided deportation years ago by citing his fear of violence from a rival criminal gang.

Our asylum laws have created a vast backlog of cases to be adjudicated, with millions simply skipping their hearings and continuing to use our hospitals, public schools, and other services. Fixing those laws is urgent, but not for the Congress we have.

So some smart GOP House members have found a workaround: Make the claimant pay for filing asylum claims along with the taxpayers:

Republicans should make this a hill they’re willing to die on.

Canada Cuts Off Its Nose to Spite Our Face

It probably wasn’t helpful to conservatives and Christians in Canada that Donald Trump mocked their former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over tariffs and offered to let Canada become the U.S.’s 51st state. Gestures like that, and some of Trump’s necessary trade moves, can cause blowback that gives disloyal elites in foreign countries the chance to wrap themselves in their nation’s flag — even as they persecute its citizens and import millions of Muslim colonists to replace them.

But given how oppressive and autocratic the Liberal Party has proven to be in Canada, especially during the COVID panic with its persecution of truckers, Canadian voters must take responsibility for their decision to elect the sinister Mark Carney to take Trudeau’s place. Here he is promising Canadians that he will accelerate the enforcement of Net Zero — climate-driven policies that strangle economic growth and dismantle cheap, reliable energy infrastructure.

In his bland, bureaucratic manner, Carney is issuing a manifesto for a totalitarian takeover of all economic activity by self-appointed elites. Carney has me wondering if C.S. Lewis’ apocalyptic novel That Hideous Strength was actually a warning issued by a time-traveler with a typewriter.

Supreme Court Takes on Important Faith-Based Education Case Today

Intercessors for America reports that today

the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board v. Drummond, a case that will decide the future of publicly funded religious schools in America. With Justice Amy Coney Barrett recusing herself, a tie is possible.

CBN News explains: “Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is in a legal battle with the state’s charter school board, aiming to prevent taxpayer dollars from funding faith-based institutions.”

IFA knows we can’t lobby the Supreme Court to decide the case correctly. But we can lobby a Higher Authority. They offer this prayer:

God, we thank You for inspiring Oklahoma to create the nation’s first taxpayer-funded religious school. We pray You would protect St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School, as well as the religious freedom of all Americans.

Amen.
