The Brew: Does Christianity Mean Being as Foolish and Self-Destructive as Possible? Woke Pastors Say Yes
Last week, Vice President J.D. Vance schooled the media on a basic Christian principle: You owe more to those whom God has entrusted to you than you do to total strangers. That is, you have greater obligations to your parents, your children, your spouse, your neighbors, and fellow citizens than to someone far away whom you’ve never met, who has never entrusted himself to your care or sacrificed on your behalf. You shouldn’t malnourish your own kids or stint on their education to avoid granting them a “privilege” that kids in other countries lack, or seek other nations’ interests over your homeland’s.
And you certainly shouldn’t use the coercive power of the State to force your fellow citizens (many of them not even Christians) to make such self-destructive sacrifices or face prison time in the name of “gospel values.”
That conclusion seems pretty logically straightforward, a deduction even a pagan could make using the reason God gave us and the Natural Law He wrote on each of our hearts. It’s also supported by Scripture:
The ordo amoris (order of love) is not novel—it’s biblical.
1. Love God first, then neighbor (Mark 12:30-31).
2. Provide for your own household (1 Tim. 5:8).
3. Families should care for their own before the church does (1 Tim. 5:4).
4. Do good especially to the household of…

So of course, upon hearing that the left went insane. We expect that from the party of 47 genders, abortion through birth, and tax-funded sex change operations for illegal aliens in prison.
But many progressive Christians went equally ballistic, denouncing this straightforward insight as “pagan” and “tribal.”
A bizarre take on John 15:12-13 – less Christian and more pagan tribal. We should start worrying when politicians become theologians, assume to speak for Jesus, and tell us in which order to love… https://t.co/rrsivzGdvT

Heretics throughout history have misread the Scriptures and concluded that “true” Christianity demands we reject as “fallen” and “fleshly” core aspects of God’s own Creation, dictates He revealed to His people the Jews, or the plain verdict of reason. Some in the early Church concluded from “turn the other cheek” that total pacifism is demanded of believers, and that it’s wrong even to defend one’s wife or daughters from rape — or one’s country from pagan invasion. Others have called for total celibacy, citing Jesus’s example and His talk of “eunuchs” for the Kingdom. Today at the Vatican and in the pumpkin spice-scented suites of Christianity Today, the message rings out that Christians may not defend the borders of their countries.
When you cite to such people scriptural counterarguments, historic teachings by the Church in previous centuries, or arguments from Natural Law, you don’t get reasonable answers. They don’t even listen. If you barged into the papal apartments or into Russell Moore’s office and insisted on having this argument, don’t doubt it: They’d call security and have you forcibly removed. They wouldn’t deem you an “undocumented” squatter and let you move in and live there.
You won’t see protests like this in St. Peter’s Square:

That’s because of security measures such as these:
VATICAN GETS TOUGH ON TRESPASSERS
New rules mean illegal entry into Vatican City now comes with massive fines and prison time.
Trying to sneak in? You could pay up to €25,000—or spend four years behind bars.

Meanwhile the Vatican’s public rhetoric includes gestures like this one:

The homes and offices of open borders advocates all have sturdy locks on the doors. The Vatican fields dozens of plainclothes Swiss Guards with loaded Uzis, boasts only some 200 carefully vetted citizens who don’t vote on its laws, and functions as an absolute monarchy with billions of dollars in assets. The pope doesn’t let all the Gypsies in Rome waltz in, seek citizenship, then “democratically” vote on how to dispose of all the Church’s artworks.
Russell Moore doesn’t take the grants he gets from Planned Parenthood donors and distribute them to the homeless while refusing to take a salary.
When actual migrants showed up at “sanctuary city” of Martha’s Vineyard, its well-connected humanitarians had them removed by the National Guard in under 24 hours.
Funny how that works. It’s almost as if the whole point of progressive Christianity isn’t to change people’s hearts or serve the poor, but to make the Gospel as repulsive as possible so people walk away from it. Harness all the power and cash of secular elites to teach people that Christianity is a civilizational suicide cult, that Jesus came to cancel out His Father’s teachings and make human life impossible … and eventually some of them will believe you. They’ll conclude that faith is the enemy of reason and embrace vanilla hedonistic secularism — or else some neopagan, maybe even neo-Nazi ideology that doesn’t entail suicide … though it might fantasize about genocide.
Whether you enter Hell by the left door or by the right, Screwtape is equally pleased.
Biden Threatened to Cut Off Africans’ Electricity if They Wouldn’t Legalize Abortion
The Trump broom is sweeping through our filthy corridors of power, and turning up evidence of murder. Gateway Pundit reports:
Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to investigate reports that the Biden administration tried to pressure a foreign nation into adopting radical pro-abortion legislation in exchange for aid.
A December 2024 report from The Daily Signal showed that the Biden administration was pressuring Sierra Leone to pass a pro-abortion bill, deceptively named the ‘Safe Motherhood Act,’ in order to receive aid for affordable electricity through the Sierra Leone Compact.
You see, loving distant strangers more than your neighbor sometimes requires forcing them to abort their children. And if you support Donald Trump trying to stop that, you’re a hateful Christian nationalist.
Trump Imposes Punitive Tariffs on Canada and Mexico for Letting Fentanyl into the U.S.
Speaking of looking out first for your citizens and neighbors instead of elites’ bottom lines, President Trump is taking action against abuses that face America from the north and south alike, as Conservative Treehouse reports:
President Trump has triggered punitive tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China for their role in the manufacture and delivery of fentanyl into the United States while disregarding their responsibility to secure the U.S. border.
In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced responsive tariffs against American goods. However, the responsive tariffs are primarily the products that Canada has exploited through the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) loophole.
This isn’t all about fentanyl. Trump is playing chess, not checkers. As The Stream has reported, under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada has morphed from an Anglosphere democracy into a quasi-authoritarian state — with harsh prison sentences for protesting truckers, mass euthanasia of the obese and clinically depressed, and “hate crime” laws that imprison Christians for reading aloud from the Old Testament. It’s likely that Trump is applying maximum pressure to Canada to help with a regime change, which bloodlessly liberates Canadians from their punitive elites.
100,000 Brits Rally for Tommy Robinson
Speaking of once-free countries now groaning under oppression, we’ve featured British writers Gavin Ashenden and Jamie Bambrick reporting on the punitive silencing of peaceful citizens, including prison terms for nonviolent Facebook posts that judges deemed “hateful.” One of the most egregious victims has been populist leader Tommy Robinson, imprisoned in solitary confinement on trumped-up “terrorism” charges for refusing to let police unlock his phone. Citizens in Britain are standing up for Tommy, with some inspiration from President Trump:

Along The Stream…
Are you confused or alarmed by President Trump’s apparent embrace of AI and mRNA cancer “vaccines” through the new Stargate Program? Later this morning, William Briggs will cut through the hype and explain the science.
Did you know that India persecutes Christians as fiercely as almost any Muslim country? Now it’s jailing native Christians for daring to preach the freedom of the Gospel to persecuted Dalits (“untouchables”), as Jason Jones reports later this morning.
