US Probes Leak of Classified Military Documents
"We are following it closely," House Speaker Mike Johnson said about the publication of Israel's plans for a counterattack against Iran.
A deeply troubling leak of plans for a counterattack by Israel against Iran that may have come from inside the U.S. government is being investigated.
Israel, which was attacked by a barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles on October 1, has been planning its response ever since. Reuters reports that two highly classified documents, which were prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, started showing up on the controversial Telegram app last week.
“(An) investigation (is) underway and I’ll get a briefing on that in a couple of hours,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told Reuters on Sunday. “We are following it closely.”
Reuters added that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not immediately respond to requests for comment. “The Pentagon said it was looking into the leak reports.”
As The Stream reported last Friday, the U.S. military is sending 100 troops to Israel to operate a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile battery. It is intended to deter Iran from launching further ballistic missile attacks against Israel. There are also thousands of American service members serving throughout the Middle East region.
With so many Israeli and American lives at stake, we pray that whoever leaked these sensitive documents is quickly found and fully prosecuted.
