The Tragic Rage of the Gay Left

By Rob Schwarzwalder Published on March 4, 2019

Rage.

This is the dominant emotion of the gay left. They can brook no dissent. And they do not want tolerance. They demand affirmation. Two recent examples:

Joe Biden retracts calling Mike Pence a “decent guy.” Why? Because a former television actress turned would be Democratic politician named Cynthia Nixon bullies the former Vice-President of the United States in a tweet. Biden, a tower of sensitivity if not moral courage, quickly apologized for calling Pence decent.

Now, Nixon has taken things a step further by writing an op-ed in the Washington Post that Pence is “insidious” because he believes marriage is the union of a man and a woman. This is more than absurd — it’s dangerous.

Tolerance at the Barrel of a Gun

I know. I was one floor up when gunman Floyd Lee Corkins burst into the Family Research Council in August 2012. It was only because of the incredible heroism of my colleague and friend Leo Johnson that dozens, perhaps scores, of my FRC colleagues and I weren’t gunned down by Corkins.

Corkins came to kill us because we supported marriage as it has always been defined. He carried nearly 100 rounds of ammunition and several dozen Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in his bag. He planned to rub the sandwiches in the faces of dead victims. Why? Because Chick-Fil-A’s CEO had commented that he supported marriage as between a man and a woman. For this, his company had been the target of a massively unsuccessful national boycott campaign.

Corkins, a “gay rights” activist, thought he would do his movement a favor by silencing us. Which is exactly what Cynthia Nixon wants to do — not with a gun but with the well-honed techniques of a professional and public bully.

Chris Pratt, Homophobe?

A second example: Actor Chris Pratt goes to an Evangelical church in Southern California. Like all but a tiny fraction of professing Evangelical churches, it opposes sexual intimacy outside the bonds of one-man, one-woman marriage.

Gays and lesbians activists will always want more and more public, legal, and religious agreement with their demands because deep within, they cannot be at peace with the behavior and pattern of life they have chosen.

For this, actress Ellen Page attacked him, writing, “If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed. Being anti LGBTQ is wrong, there aren’t two sides.”

Oh, now it’s so clear. To affirm what the Bible teaches and Christians and Jews have affirmed for all but about, say, a decade is “hateful.” That simplifies everything.

Raging On

This brings us back to rage, hate, and bullying. The gay activist community uses words like “hate” because they know they are inflammatory. No one wants to be a hater. No one wants to be accused of bigotry. So, the morally weak and/or theologically uninformed give in.

But there are many of us willing to stand strong against the cultural onslaught. To the gay left and their allies, that means we have to be stopped. Maybe not at the end of a gun. (No, it won’t come to that — will it?) But through public attacks that are relentless, brutal and wounding.

There is another aspect to all of this. Gay activists and their allies want all churches, synagogues, and mosques to fully affirm same-sex behavior. To ordain LGBT pastors, priests, and rabbis. To see imams dressed in the colors of the gay rainbow. But they’re going after Christianity first because so many of its professing adherents believe a strong backbone indicates a hard heart.

There is no love in affirming that which harms. There is no grace in giving in to the pressure of a grim-faced mob (or its leaders). Appeasement doesn’t work — the surrender of an inch implies the yielding of a mile.

The Warning of the Boy Scouts

Consider the Boy Scouts. A once-noble organization, it received early and significant support from no less than Theodore Roosevelt, the only Chief Scout Citizen in the movement’s history. He applauded Scouts’ “manliness in its most vigorous form.”

In 2014, Scouting opened its doors to boys identifying openly as gay. Then to gay Scoutmasters. Then to transsexuals.

Now, the Boy Scouts have abandoned any concept of gender distinction and are allowing the formation of all-girl Boy Scout troops. Yes, you read that correctly.

This is the result of the endless pressure of gay activists and their friends in the media who badgered and nagged and threatened and bullied until they got their way. Now, even the liberal Girl Scouts are suing the Boy Scouts for their gender-blurring. Wonders never cease.

The Cross and the Yoke

The bottom line is this: These gay and lesbian activists will always want more and more public, legal, and religious agreement with their demands because deep within, they cannot be at peace with the behavior and pattern of life they have chosen.

So, they will rage on. And Christians will, with grace and truth, call them to a better way. The way of the love of Christ, Who calls all who would follow Him to bear a cross.

For some that cross might be a disability. Or for others, surrendering cherished dreams or relationships that can’t be fixed. For others, it might be refusing a sexual longing that means a wrenching celibacy.

Yet when we exchange the yoke of self for the yoke of the Savior, we find the fulfillment none of us can have without Him. After all, as He promised, His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.
