The Brew: Will New York Send a Good Samaritan to Prison for Being a White Guy?

By John Zmirak Published on December 4, 2024

The outrageous prosecution of subway Good Samaritan Daniel Penny — who subdued a deranged man threatening to open fire on the occupants of a moving train in New York City earlier this year — has reached its closing arguments, and the State of New York’s case is based mainly on DEI gibberish cribbed from books by people like Ibrahim Kendi.

In case you didn’t know, Penny defended a subway car full of (mostly non-white) people from Jordan Neely, a drug-addled mental patient who was threatening to kill them. Penny put Neely in a headlock to restrain him, and after the incident the oft-convicted, mentally unbalanced Neely unfortunately died. Afterward, Penny gave an unfettered statement to police without an attorney present — because why would he feel he’d need one? But as it turns out, he did.

I’ll let the fearless (if sometimes tactless) Laura Loomer give you the highlights:

As Loomer notes:

During closing arguments in the trial today, the Prosecutor (Orbegoso’s wife) accused Daniel Penny of failing to recognize the “humanity” of Jordan Neely and suggested it was for racial reasons since Penny is white and Neely was black. “He didn’t recognize that Jordan Neely was a person,” Manhattan prosecutor Dafna Yoran told the jury. “He saw him as a person that needed to be eliminated.”

These days, everything is seen as a hate crime, as Jake Gardner’s 2020 shooting of a black person who was looting his small business and attacking Gardner’s elderly father in Omaha, Nebraska, was charged as a hate crime. (The fallout from that allegation eventually drove Gardner to commit suicide.) And if you have a compliant jury, like those found in most blue cities, you might well get a conviction — as the January 6 defendants now sitting in prison have had to learn.

What kind of solid citizen was Jordan Neely? One with a warrant out for his arrest for violent assault on the subway:

For decades, liberals have complained about “white flight” hollowing out the economic base of cities, causing public services to dry up in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and New Orleans. If Penny is convicted, what conclusion should people of pallor draw except that they have been stripped of the primal right to defend themselves, their possessions, and their neighbors against violent crime?

Much as I love my native New York City, I’m resolved to never live there or in another blue city again. I know when I’m not wanted.

Why the FBI Must Be Padlocked and Fumigated

If you’re wondering why Democrats and RINOs are panicking over Donald Trump’s plans to reform the FBI — which the Obama administration used the Patriot Act to turn into an American KGB — take the time watch some footage of what that politicized agency has been up to over the past few years.

Help the Abandoned Americans of Appalachia

Courageous journalist (and proud Appalachia native) Emerald Robinson is highlighting the Biden administration’s abandonment of hurricane victims in Tennessee and North Carolina, and trying to help:

Meanwhile, the Biden administration—when it’s not busy pardoning its co-conspirators—is shipping still more billions to support our game of nuclear chicken in Ukraine. The fearless Jack Maxey, who risked his life to get the Hunter Biden laptop data to journalists and lawmakers, isn’t happy about it:

America’s Nukes Are in Good Hands, Right?

Are you feeling confident that our confrontation with Vladimir Putin’s Russia is in safe, capable hands? Then check out the current state of the man who still putatively controls the nuclear football:

Be honest. Would you let Joe Biden drive your kids to school? But our institutions have left him in office, in this condition, for years. Maybe stock up on those iodine anti-radiation pills … and pray hard that the world survives intact to January 20.

It isn’t just Ukraine that’s considered a higher priority than American disaster victims. It’s pretty much … every other country in the world:

Democrats might want to examine their consciences here. They might not agree with “America First,” but are they really comfortable putting the most vulnerable Americans last?

More Metaxas Media

If you’re reading The Stream, chances are good that you aren’t a militant atheist. That’s one demographic we admit we have failed to attract. (Our bad!) But you might not know just how implausible atheist arguments have become with the passing of years. That’s the message of Eric Metaxas’s book, Is Atheism Dead? and of the TV series with the same title he’s now crowdsourcing. Check out the trailer:

Bah, Humbug to You, Too!

If you need some holiday cheer, but agree with me that it’s way too early to start celebrating Christmas, you might enjoy my perennially relevant, curmudgeonly column, “An Advent Plan for a Non-People Person.” And in the same spirit, here’s a holiday video that conveys much the same message. You’re welcome.

Along The Stream:

Every time Eric Metaxas comes out with a deadly serious book about profound, existential issues, I conduct a frivolous interview with him. Now that he’s promoting a new film that tells the sobering story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s martyrdom, I thought it only appropriate to do the same — especially since the Regime Christians over at Christianity Today are trashing the film because of Metaxas’s political views. (Which is funny, since he didn’t write the script, and isn’t involved with the film in any way. He just thinks it’s great, because it is.) Read our exchange, which goes live later this morning.

Also, don’t miss Part 2 of Chenyuan Snider’s insightful diagnosis, “The Deadly Cancer within American Evangelical Churches.”
