The Brew: Cause for Atonement and Cause for Celebration

By Al Perrotta Published on October 4, 2022

It’s Yom Kippur, the Jewish “Day of Atonement.” The holiest day on the Jewish calendar. A day of somber reflection, to “afflict your souls” both individually and collectively.

… In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and you shall not do any work … . For on that day he shall provide atonement for you to cleanse you from all your sins before the L-RD. (Leviticus 16:29-30)

The day weighs extra heavy after seeing this number: 43,269.

43,269

That was the number of GoFundMe accounts set up for those raising money for “top surgery.” Moms4Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice tweeted out the search results Sunday afternoon.

(The number dropped to 43,126 by COB Monday.)

Top surgery is the euphemistic name for the removal of healthy breasts of those “transitioning.”

Flip through some of the pages upon pages of accounts, and know that there are people contributing to those accounts.

Know that the governor of our most populous and trend-setting state has just signed a bill allowing his state to take custody of children from other states so they can mutilate themselves in such a manner.

Know that the nation’s premiere medical association, the AMA, is now asking Big Tech and DOJ to censor, investigate and punish journalists who question radical gender surgeries for minors.

Then ask if we as a nation have anything to atone for.

More Secret Flights of Illegals by Biden

Remember all the weeping and gnashing of teeth over DeSantis sending a few dozen illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard?

Well, Biden has resumed his secret flights in the dead of night. NY Post reports that last week the Administration flew three planes to a new location in New York. Specifically, Orange County Airport in Montgomery, N.Y. One of the planes was loaded with teenagers, mostly underage girls.

Donald Trump Sues CNN for Defamation

Former President Trump is suing CNN for $475 million dollars. Trump claims the news network has ramped up its slander and defamation “with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler.’” The goal of CNN’s campaign, according to the lawsuit? Hurting his election chances.

Given Trump’s current polling and CNN’s ratings, it seems Trump has hurt CNN more than CNN has hurt Trump. CNN without Trump in office has fallen apart quicker than a 1978 Pontiac.

The Queen of Soul Targeted by FBI

A few weeks back we reported on the amazing (and amusing) news that the FBI had spent a couple years tracking the TV pop group The Monkees back during the Vietnam War. No one can chuckle at this one.  Turns out the FBI was tracking the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin for four decades. Chain of Fools, indeed.

Rolling Stone reports the Feds used fake calls, surveillance, infiltration and “highly placed sources” to try and tie her to “extremists.” The snooping lasted from 1967 to 2007. Her file, which Rolling Stone acquired under a FOIA request, is 270 pages long and is

peppered with phrases like ‘Black extremists,’ ‘pro-communist, ‘hate America,’ ‘radical,’ ‘racial violence,’ and ‘militant Black power and overflowing with suspicion about the singer, her work, and the other activists and entertainers with whom she spent time.

Please Support The Stream: Equipping Christians to Think Clearly About the Political, Economic, and Moral Issues of Our Day.

Despite the four decade long effort to tie Aretha to extremists and radicals, the bureau came up empty.

If you think the FBI’s hunting off political opponents began in 2015, you’d better “Think” again. I don’t know if the Bureau can ever regain the “Respect” it once had. But we can always “Say a Little Prayer.” (Yeah, Dionne Warwick had the original hit version, but Aretha’s cover is hard to beat.)

Biden Raised in Puerto Rican Community?

If Biden visited Pompeii, he’d tell you he was once trapped in a volcano. Once again, Joe appears to have aggrandized his life story to fit the occasion. Biden was in Puerto Rico Monday to survey damage from Hurricane Fiona. And suddenly, he’s saying he was “raised” in a Puerto Rican community. Or at least that seems to be the translation.

The Washington Times notes that the current population of Delaware is only about 2.5% Puerto Rican descent. Go back 60-70 years when Biden was growing up and the percentage is bound to be much less. Now, nearby Philadelphia was a popular settling place for Puerto Ricans, decades after Biden went to D.C. Perhaps that’s the origin of his claim.

Or like his arrest for trying to see Nelson Mandela, or marching for civil rights, or his first wife being killed by a drunk driver, it’s another added scene in the fictionalized bio-pic running through the Former Joe Biden’s brain.

Speaking of Biden’s Brain, syndicated columnist Erick Erickson wonders if Biden’s mental deterioration is connected to his two surgeries for brain aneurysms. It is fair to wonder. Check out the article here.
