Sunny Side of The Stream: At Age 51, a Mechanic Becomes a Doctor

By Aliya Kuykendall Published on October 1, 2022

As a child, Dr. Carl Allamby’s family of 8 often couldn’t afford water, electricity or gas.

“My saving grace [growing up] was our strong family structure,” he said. “My siblings and I always stuck together and weathered our hardships as a team.”

At age 19, he opened his first repair shop. At age 31, he started a business degree and found he loved biology. At age 51, after working as a mechanic during the day and taking classes at night, he became a medical doctor.

Allamby was “always infatuated with the way things worked β€” and the human body seemed to be the most complex of anything I encountered, which always fascinated me,” he told Fox News Digital.

Another Healthy Tip

Last week I wrote about the health benefits of walking in a forested area. Inspired, that same day I rediscovered a park I hadn’t been to in a while. Since then I’ve invited others there to join me to eat dinner and take a walk. My friend remarked, “how did I not know this place was here?” I hope you find somewhere beautiful to enjoy walking and resting. It really has been good for my soul.

This week on social media I similarly came across another convicting health discovery. I learned that when we sleep, our brain clears away toxins whose build up is linked to Alzheimer’s. That’s not to say they know for sure that lack of sleep causes Alzheimer’s, but it’s enough to motivate me to let my brain clean itself, which it only does during sleep! The rest of the body cleans itself through the lymphatic system, which the brain isn’t connected to. Here are the videos I came across on sleep:

This historical video shows a mind-boggling intersection without traffic lights. Imagine driving through that!

You’ll want to turn the sound on for this one. It sounds like the folks giving commentary are in a submarine watching the octopus respond to their presence:
