Live Conversation: Brandan Robertson and Tom Gilson Discuss Truth and the Bible

By The Stream Published on May 6, 2021

Rev. Brandan Robertson describes himself on his personal website as “a noted author, activist, and public theologian, working at the intersections of spirituality and social renewal.” His teachings have been challenged here at The Stream in three columns by three authors. Robertson accepted an invitation from The Stream’s Tom Gilson to a conversation that streamed live on YouTube.

Robertson and Gilson explored some implications of Robertson’s teaching, including a deep dive into the authority and trustworthiness of Scripture. This conversation stemmed from Gilson’s criticism of Robertson in his column entitled “This Progressive Pastor, Who Hates Oppression, Preaches Beliefs That are Certain to Create It.” How does belief in knowable objective truth, or the absence of this belief, relate to power and oppression?
