Prayers for Joe … and the Safety of the Nation

By Al Perrotta Published on March 8, 2021

In an article published Thursday on The Stream, Dr. Michael Brown reminded us to pray for Joe Biden and rebuke any prayers for his demise or that of his family.

And that is well and good. I would simply add this: Are you praying for Biden’s health and the security of our nation? If not, today’s a good day to start.

It grows clearer by the day we have got a situation in American we have not seen in a century. A president whose hands are not on the rudder, and we have no idea who’s really running the show. (The Inside the Beltway Guessing Game is already underway. According to The Hill, GOP insiders complain that Chief of Staff Ron Klain is “pulling the strings.”)

For precedent, you’d have to go back to Woodrow Wilson, who was so incapacitated by a stroke in 1919 that his wife Edith, in effect, ran the country for nearly a year and a half. She’s even been dubbed our “first female president.”

Too Much Is at Stake

Several times during the 2020 campaign, Joe Biden publicly declared he was running for the Senate. Consider what else we know is going on:

We had the incident on February 28 where Biden completely lost track of who he was talking about and even remarked that he didn’t know what he was doing there.

We had the curious video where Biden said he was ready to take questions from Democratic lawmakers … then weakly paused to ask Nancy (presumably Pelosi) if that was okay, and the White House cut off the feed before she could answer.

We have the suspicious timing of dozens of House Democrats urging Biden to cede sole control of the power to launch nuclear weapons. These Democrats want the Vice President and Speaker of the House to also sign off.

Hiding from Friendly Reporters

We have the fact that Joe Biden has not yet done a solo press conference in 45 days in office. His recent predecessors were out there within weeks, if not days. Even CNN noted that within the past century, no American president has gone longer than 33 days. White House press secretary Jen Psaki promises Biden will do a press conference before the end of the month. Her predecessor, Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany thinks Biden’s staff has no “faith” in his ability to handle a press grilling. (Even from a press so friendly they’d just as soon spread rose petals at his feet as ask a decent question.)

By contrast, Trump took questions from hostile reporters almost any time he stepped out of the White House, and did pressers every day during the early months of the COVID crisis.

Where’s the Old Joe We Remember?

The White House will say Biden is deliberately keeping a lower profile after Trump. Newsflash: Biden could hold a press conference every day with circus clowns and can-can dancers and he’d still be lower profile than Trump. That’s just an excuse.

Joe Biden spent decades as one of the biggest … and most gregarious … talkers in all of Washington. Back in the day, if you had plugged jumper cables into his pie hole, you wouldn’t have needed power plants. He chewed off so many ears his code name was Mike Tyson. His uncharacteristic quiet is, itself, yet a sign of trouble.

We Didn’t Vote for This

Furthermore – and most crucially – the President of the United States has a duty to face the American public unfiltered and face questions. He works for us.

We don’t need a show. We don’t need epic riffs on inefficient shower heads or bitter repartee with snotty reporters. Especially, given the obvious signs of mental slippage, and questions about his health, Biden must prove he’s all there or he simply should not be there.

The Danger … Even if Not True

Let me give you one major reason: Biden’s absences and lapses endanger national security. They make foreign governments nervous. It was one thing for them to be a bit scared of what Donald Trump might do. Nikki Haley says she deliberately played up the Trump wild card factor when talking to certain countries. “You might want to play ball because, frankly, I can’t predict what he’ll do otherwise.”

It’s like the scene in Bull Durham where Crash Davis tells a batter he has no idea where LaRouche’s fast ball was going to go, scaring the batter half to death. But this was only after Crash told LaRouche to hit the mascot with his next pitch. It’s okay to keep ‘em guessing. If they know you’re in control.

But when you really don’t know who is calling the shots or how capable someone is, and it’s the Leader of the Free World?

Remember in the movie Dave where the press secretary and evil chief of staff explained to Dave why they needed him to impersonate the President Mitchell after Mitchell had a near-fatal stroke. “Sometimes we need our friends, and even our enemies, to feel safe and secure. That they can go to bed at night knowing that President Mitchell is fully in control.”

I don’t care who you are or how much you hate the United States, you need to know who’s going answer the phone at 3 a.m. in the White House if the need arises. You must know the American Commander-in-Chief is in command.

Imagine, for example, some skirmish between Iran and Saudi Arabia goes completely wrong. Some huge mistake gets made. You’re 20 minutes from an all-out war neither wanted. You need the U.S. President to get someone to back off. NOW!

Or do you want the phone answered by someone who has no idea who he is?

Our Enemies Can Manipulate the Situation

Let’s take a real world example of how a rival can not only be made very anxious, but could manipulate the struggle for control in the White House. Take Russia. Russia has long feared U.S. nuclear strikes. That’s what kept the Soviets out of Paris for decades.

The Democrats just spent four years saying Russia is our real enemy, which fixed the 2016 election. The Biden Administration bombs Russia’s friends in Syria. The Democrats now want to take sole nuclear code authority from Joe Biden. Doesn’t Putin have to wonder, “Are they worried Joe’s going mistakenly bomb us?”

There was talk that Kamala Harris was kept out of the loop in the Syria bombing. If you’re Putin, don’t you want to reach out to her through back channels and say: “What’s going on here? Joe’s blowing up stuff days into office and you folks in Washington don’t trust him with nukes. We’re worried your boy is going to fly a nuke into Moscow thinking he’s playing ‘Mario Kart.’ We have no choice but to up our readiness. You must do something about this.”

Meanwhile, China’s Xi is on the horn to his well-compensated pal Biden. “Are those House Democrats trying to strip you of your nuclear authority really just to set the stage to remove you? Is Kamala Harris behind it? After what that woman said about you, do you really trust her not to push you out? You have to do something about it.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s talking to its pals John Kerry and Valerie Jarrett: “Look, we know Biden’s out of it and Harris is in the dark. Things are spinning out of control. You have to do something about it.”

Our Safety and Security

Actually, we, the people, have to do something about it. Demand transparency. Demand to hear from the one hired to administer the Executive Branch. Demand he assure the American people and people around the world he is the one fully in charge.

If he cannot or will not, Joe Biden must resign. The safety and security of our nation depends on it.

And until that moment, we must continue praying for his health and our blessed nation.
