Larry Elder Asks, ‘Is America Racist?’

By Rachel Alexander Published on January 20, 2016

Conservative libertarian talk show host Larry Elder has released a compelling, short video for Prager University analyzing the claims by Black Lives Matter that the U.S. is chock full of racism. He begins, “Obama says ‘racism is in our DNA,'” but if so, “then doesn’t that mean it’s immutable, unchangeable?” The evidence states otherwise. In 1960, 60 percent of Americans said they would not vote for a black president. Now, Elder points out, Obama has been elected president twice. Interracial marriages, a sign of assimilation, have increased since 1967, with approval rising from 4 percent to 87 percent today.

Regarding racial profiling by police, Elder notes there is a much higher proportion of blacks arrested in New York City than in Ferguson, but NYPD isn’t receiving the intense scrutiny that Ferguson police are. He said when it comes to police conduct, “there needs to be an honest discussion about crime.” Blacks disproportionately commit more homicides, “and almost always, the victim is another black person.” Additionally, blacks are more likely to commit traffic violations in every type of offense.

Elder ends his rebuttal of accusations that the U.S is racist by quoting Orlando Patterson, a liberal Harvard sociologist, “America is now the least racist majority white society in the world.”
