Donald Trump and the Principle of Divine Upheaval

Whether you are a friend or foe of President Donald Trump, there’s no question that his political presence has produced unprecedented shaking and upheaval.

Whether you are a friend or foe of President Donald Trump, there’s no question that his political presence has produced unprecedented shaking and upheaval. How do we explain this phenomenon? How widespread is it? And is it possible that the Trump presidency is directly connected to women coming forward with claims of sexual abuse at the hands of the rich and powerful?

During last year’s presidential campaign, Lance Wallnau, an evangelical strategist and speaker, wrote a bestselling book describing Trump as God’s Chaos Candidate. (The full title of the book was: God’s Chaos Candidate: Donald J. Trump and the American Unraveling.) Wallnau also likened Trump to a divinely appointed “wrecking ball” against political correctness (and more). How much upheaval has President Trump brought in his wake?

Before getting into details, let me explain how certain people can bring hidden or suppressed things to the surface.

Trump Effect

In biblical terms, and with wholly positive connotations, the Lord told His people that He would come as a “refiner’s fire.” Such a fire reveals the impurities of gold and silver when they are tossed into the mega-hot flames. (See Malachi 3:1-5.) The precious metals may look fine to the naked eye. But once they’re subjected to the super-heated fire, all the dross rises up to the top, making for an ugly sight.

To use another biblical image, an old Jewish man named Simeon prophesied over the baby Jesus that, through Him, “the thoughts of many hearts would be revealed.” (Luke 2:34-35) Jesus, by His words and deeds, would expose the secrets of people’s hearts, as they came out radically for Him or against Him. When He came to town, you found out who people really were and where they really stood.

Is the #MeToo movement another aspect of the divinely-appointed “wrecking ball” role of Trump?

When it comes to Donald Trump, his strengths are as glaring as his weaknesses. People line up to bless him or curse him based on whether they admire his strengths or despise his weaknesses.

Trump stands in stark contrast to Jesus, whose perfections brought things to the surface. It is President Trump’s imperfections that are bringing things to the surface today. But when someone like Trump comes on the scene, speaking his mind whether you like it or not, neutrality quickly vanishes. People take sides, and with great passion. They draw lines, with great force. The openly speak inner thoughts, with little restraint or nuance.

This is part of the Trump effect. Part of the wake that follows in his path.

Fault Lines Exposed

Consider the effect on the media. The divisions between right and left, conservative and liberal, have never been clearer than they are today. It is almost impossible to be neutral toward Trump. Those who are against him are really against him — overtly, consistently, doggedly, unashamedly. Those who are for him are really for him& — always defending him, always taking his side, with no apologies or explanations needed.

In the larger world of politics, not only have Democrat and Republican divides deepened, but there are now cracks and fissures within the president’s own party. They separate the old guard from the new, the swamp dwellers from the swamp drainers. Trump is just as likely to feud with Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell as he is with Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer. Does anyone recall something like this under Presidents Obama, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, or Reagan?

Looking at the society as a whole, the Trump phenomenon has heightened racial divisions, ethnic divisions, and even gender divisions.

Personally, I don’t believe that the president is a white supremacist or a “male chauvinist pig.” But his nationalistic appeals, his siding with the police (just as President Obama often did the opposite), and his history of sexist remarks make him easy to caricature.

Accordingly, because of Trump (and I’m neither blaming him nor praising him), both the alt-right and the radical left have emerged out of the shadows with much greater definition. And because of Trump, more and more women have decided to speak up and speak out, shouting to the world that he is not fit to be their president. This much is self-evident and hardly big news.

The Shaking to Come

But could it be that this very atmosphere has led to so many women coming forward to accuse everyone from Harvey Weinstein to John Conyers of sexual misconduct? Could this be another aspect of the divinely-appointed “wrecking ball” role of Trump?

Of course, the timing could be coincidental. Perhaps it’s related more to the Bill Cosby allegations than to anything else. At the same time, it’s a bit uncanny that, with so much in our society shaking since candidate (and now President) Trump came on the scene, Hollywood and Congress are being shaken with sexual allegations.

If so, the Trump presidency means that there will be a whole lot more shaking going on. So here’s a word to the wise. Make sure your own house is in order, since your house might be the next to shake.

Jehu, son of Nimshi. Occasionally, some (like him) are anointed to lead— and the prophets are then told to leave immediately! Such, perhaps, are these days.

    • Roberta Watkins

Iteresting you should say that. Rabbi Jonathan Cahn made that very comparison in his new book The Paradigm. He cast Trump as Jehu to The Clintons Ahab and Jezzibel. God said that all of creation would be shaken until only that which cannot be shaken would remain.

      • stan schmunk

Cahn and Wallnau are not evangelicals, they’re false teachers, angels of light as it were. You really need to read Matthew 23:7-8.

        • Iseewhattheydid

          dead wrong

          • stan schmunk

You’ve been deceived. Did you read Matthew 23:7-8? Do you know anything about the Bible?

          • Robert Bill Morgan

No need attack someone with scripture. You will Never convince anyone if you come across as attacking their views.Do you really think God gave us the bible to attack each other with? I dis agree with you but I will never get you to even consider where I’m coming from or the point I’m trying to make if I come across to you as attacking you n ow will I? Just something to think about . Remember either one of us can be wrong about this but still be a brothers in Christ .

          • arthur facteau

            Well said!

          • stan schmunk

I didn’t attack anyone. I corrected their statement with clear Scripture. Did you read the Scriptures I posted?

        • Robert Bill Morgan

You voted for Hillary didn’t you.

          • stan schmunk

No and what’s that got to do with the Scriptures?

  • timeout31

When God intervenes, and plants someone like Trump, there is a reason.

  • Hmmm…

The emphasis is God himself, and I see what is happening as partly in response to prayer. God is using Donald Trump in the process of readying our country for a calling back to himself, righting the national ship in so many areas. My civic and political awareness came up with my Christian contemporaries prior to the election of Ronald Reagan. The church got on her knees and then rose to her feet. Look what happened as a result.

But we have gone back to sleep, and actually allowed Obama to have a second term because we just couldn’t bring ourselves to vote for a Mormon … That’s a lot to answer for. Those four years cemented some evil deeds and patterns from the left, cost our nation dearly, and perhaps have necessitated such “strong medicine” as Trump. 🙂

Remember Jerry Falwell? Controversial, no less, but a voice out there in the mainstream standing and speaking up to Larry Flynt and many others, kicking back. I believe Fox News has come up for such a time as this. Note how many of its most professional and dedicated anchors and news people promote Christian values. The stark contrast of – again – its sexual sins is most ironic on many counts, but has not triumphed over the good. Instead, has been and likely will continue to be purged.

Keep praying, Church of Jesus Christ — it is effectual.

  • To say people react to Trump based on whether they focus on his negatives or positives is simplistic. Some people react negatively to Trump’s positive qualities, the very things that caused many of us to vote for him. His courage to stand alone on political incorrectness has been constantly pilloried in media, academia and entertainment, yet that’s exactly why 16 other contenders fell and Trump remained standing and finished strong, and went on with a very smart campaign strategy to beat Hillary. It’s not which side of Trump people are reacting to, it’s a question of the widely differing values Americans have these days determining whether the qualities Trump shows are negative or positive. And the biased media is a major factor in how Trump and his positions are being interpreted.

  • chercher

Who remember the Apostle Paul … when he was on his way to Damascus to harass Christians and Jesus blinded him … changed his name and made him into the biggest Christian missionary and the most prolific writer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Trump is not perfect, but he is perfect for this time when liberals are wanton and want to destroy our Christian country.

  • wwellborn

I figure I am just one of the millions that prayed to God to find us someone that could save our country and he gave us Trump, thank you Lord. I think a line from the movie “Dune” fits in here, “one does not go against the will of God.” I for one like who God gave us.

    • Benny Ehud

How is he saving the country? lol Enlighten us.

      • wwellborn

I would rather explain it to a fence post, it would probably sink in better.

        • Concerned Christian

yeah, i feel that same way. 🙂

        • Benny Ehud

You should use a period or a colon where you put a comma. How’s that for comprehension?

  • Margaret McConnaughy

Recommend Kim Clement 2007. Trump shall be a trumpet..

  • Benny Ehud

You all will make any excuse that can be made for Donald Trump. It’s amazing.

    • Chip Crawford

You and other deceived ones and haters made any and every excuse, including lies, to cover the shabby deeds and infamy of Obama and Hillary selling out our country amidst decimating our military and a host of egregious sabotage and undermining our very fiber socially. How dare you attempt to equate. Trump faced the camera during the campaign and stated his embarrassing words – not deeds. The ignored and relegated working people of this country, including disenfranchised Democrats accepted that and voted for him. I’ve dealt with you before. Do not ask me to take on your enormous bank of ignorance. Good day.

      • Benny Ehud

        Lies? What lies?
Trump has now said that the TAPE is fake lol Those weren’t embarrasing words. Those were his deeds lol What 59 year old man is lying about his sex life? So, either Trump was lying or his was telling the truth? Which one was it? Now, he does LIE EVERY DAY lol He could have been lying on the tape, which is disturbing. B/c who expects a 59 year old man to lie about sexual conquest? He’s not 15 yrs old.

        • Chip Crawford

the voters took him at his word that the tape represented locker room talk, bragadoccio not deeds. He’s not hanging in the balance. The voters decided. Your record is broken. The woods are full of current examples NOW with accusers who come credibly to the camera against lawmakers and others. Trump’s did not. Get over Trump’s deal. Everyone else has. Take your thumb out of your mouth. I assume you are not 15 years old yourself.

          • Benny Ehud

No, the voters didn’t care. It may very well be locker room talk. But he did sexual assault women.

People voted for George Wallace. What does that mean? Ppl voted for Obama. What did that mean? David Duke came eerily close to winning the Senate in LA in 1990. What do the voters voting someone mean? You act like that validates someone.

          • Chip Crawford

Where’s your proof BE? You assert things. You act like that validates them. Like I said, obsession, and distraction.

          • Benny Ehud

Obsession? He’s the PRESIDENT! I pay attention to the PRESIDENT lol Are you sane? We know the president isn’t. But are you?

Now, he’s tweeted out an unauthentic video about Muslims from RACIST website. Is that wrong? Or is that OK?

          • Chip Crawford

Yep, no proof … Just a bunch of caps and more hype and gripe. Sad.

          • Concerned Christian

are you actually arguing as to whether or not Trump is a serial liar?

          • Chip Crawford

actually, i’m not addressing you …oops

          • Benny Ehud

Are you saying that Trump isn’t a serial liar? Let us know.

          • Chip Crawford

Ok, you have no proof. Admit it. Now since you can’t put up on the sexual assault, shut up. You are lying when you say that — unless you can prove it. Are you a serial slanderer as well as liar yourself?

          • Benny Ehud

You are aware that just b/c someone can’t prove something doesn’t make them a liar? Now, Donald has credible accusers, along with his ADMISSION of doing it lol

You can prove that Jesus was born. Yet, you live by it. Does that make you a liar.

Now, Donald Trump is a serial liar.

          • Chip Crawford

HAAAAAAAAAA … You are full of it bub. No admission. You lie!
“You can prove that Jesus was born.” How can I prove that? You are sooo confused.
            Get a life

          • Benny Ehud

You can’t prove that Jesus was born, lived or died. Yet, you believe it.
But you want me to prove that Trump assaulted women. There are firsthand accounts of him assaulting women. He admitted to it ON TAPE lol And then the women corroborated his accounts.

He also admitted in the tape to pursuing a married woman.

          • Chip Crawford

            God bless you

          • Benny Ehud

Nothing on pursuing the married woman? lol

          • Chip Crawford

May your soul be saved in the day of judgment

          • Benny Ehud

            You too

          • Jim Walker

Trump lies, you lie, Hillary, she is a natural, we all lie. Happy now ?
Now get on with your life and support the President to MAGA !

          • Benny Ehud

Nah…Trump is a serial liar. He’s a LIAR. He doesn’t just tell a lie. He’s a liar. GOD HATES A LIAR. It’s written. Now, I am happy. He does nothing but lie. I don’t care about Hillary. She’s not the president. If Trump were a private citizen lying, I wouldn’t care. He’s the president who does nothing but lie. Hes almost incapable of telling the truth. And that’s sad. Since God hates a liar, I have no interest in supporting one.

          • Jim Walker

Have you ever tried prayer? or PUSH
            Pray Until Something Happens ?
Try that, maybe you will to see changes.

          • Benny Ehud

What does that have to with Trump being a liar? What? Enlighten me. Quit deflecting Trump’s obvious horrible character flaws onto me. You voted for a deplorable human, and now you are trying to justify it.

          • Jim Walker

That has everything to do with you and your faith, if you are a Christian.
Jesus chose the 12, not from the group for religious leaders but from a motley crew. Believe in your sincere prayers that God will use Trump.
I didn’t vote for Trump FYI.

          • Benny Ehud

I do pray for the country and those who run it. However, doing so doesn’t mean that you don’t hold leaders accountable. Trump is a horrible person. He is beyond anything that I can imagine the 12 disciples being. I am not asking for Trump to be a religious leader. I am asking for Trump to be a decent human being.

There’s nothing in the scriptures to suggest that the disciples that Jesus chose were horrible people. That doesn’t mean they were saints, either. And the one who loved money is the one who betrayed Jesus. Does Trump love money? (rhetorical question)

          • Jim Walker

“I do pray for the country and those who run it. ”
Thanks. Do make it effective by praying without prejudice.

          • Benny Ehud

I do not care who runs the country, giving that they are decent people. I don’t care about any one particular party. But Trump is a bad person. He’s selfish, greedy (admitted to by himself), a racist, a bigot, a misogynist, a sexual assaulter and a liar. Honestly, it’s not much good you can say about him other than he’s not a murderer or a rapist — that we know of. That’s about it. Since he appoints conservative judges, a boatload of Christians have defended him at every turn. And that’s sad. He lied about releasing his taxes. He has lied about moving the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem. He goes back on his word all of time unless it is self-serving. This is just sad. And bible clearly states that God detests a liar. But evangelical, white Christians have seemingly thrown this away.

          • Chip Crawford

            Mr. Ehud,

Mr. Trump was shamed and repentant of his loose talk on the tape and the disrespect he mouthed off about. He has repented of past unfaithfulness and related behavior. Jesus is the forgiver, when one repents and turns. He does not live in those patterns these days. You are astonishingly ignorant of Jesus’ carrying away sins confessed to him. Those are none of your business. If God himself does not hold one’s sins against them, forgets them, not to bring them up again, but to strengthen the repentant in that area, who in the world dare treat them as live and operative. There’s an answer: the devil. Now, if you want to hang with him, you’ll draw his judgment for yourself with him.

Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judges another man’s servant? to his own master he stands or falls. Yea, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand.

He’s not your servant. Your problem is you don’t know Jesus, nor have his spirit within you. You can remedy that in a nano second by receiving his as your Messiah. Failing that, you are on very bad ground with your ignorant and presumptive judgments on others, yourself being mired in unconfessed and unrepented sin of refusing the savior for starters.

          • Benny Ehud

No, he was not. He’s saying now the tape is fake. He was reading from a teleprompter. Donald Trump has not changed. He’s a racist, a bigot, an unrepentant sexual assaulter, and a liar. He lies daily. So, how has Jesus changed him? He LIED!

1.) He said he was going to release his taxes. He repeatedly said he was. Then once he was elected,he said he wouldn’t. Is that lie? He retify the lie by releasing taxes.
2.) He said he was going to move the embassy to Jerusalem. Has he done it? He could have done that the first day. He lies.

Those right there are TWO lies that are easily redeemable. He won’t do it b/c he’s a liar, and Jesus has not changed him.

Why do you keep saying that I don’t believe Jesus is the Messiah? lol WHY? Why do you keep implying that?

          • Chip Crawford

You speak as a tyrant and a dictator = a bully – imposing your motives and willful harsh judgments of others on others. The spirit of Jesus, received at salvation does not do so. Jesus told the harsh and legalistic Pharisees (also deceived) that they were of their father, the devil. Please explain (1) how you differ from them and (2) why you are not eligible for their same fate.

          • Benny Ehud

1.) I believe Jesus is the Messiah
2.) I believe Jesus is the Messiah. And I am none of the things Trump happens to be: racist, bigoted, sexual predator, or a liar.

          • Chip Crawford

Even the demons believe and tremble.
            (1) You must be born again, receive him as your lord and savior
            (2) You have also sinned and fallen short of the glory, and do not stand in the place of God

          • Benny Ehud

            You’re an idiot.

          • Chip Crawford

            1) You deny that you need to be born again yourself?
            2) You deny that you have also sinned? And concur that you stand in the place of God as judge?

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judges another?

          • Benny Ehud

I don’t deny anything. What I am fascinated by is that you keep telling me about Jesus when I already believe that Jesus is the Messiah. I am no demon; yet, you used demon as some sort of comparison. People who believe that Jesus is the Messiah aren’t in the same boat as demons. Demons are doomed to their fate. There’s nothing they can do. You’re questioning my belief and faith in Jesus b/c I am criticizing the ACTIONS of Donald Trump.

You people hate Democrats so much that you are willing to defend anything as long as you believe it defeats Democrats. You all are defending Roy Moore when there are obvious inconsistencies in history. One moment he doesn’t know any of the women and the other moment he knows two of them. He admits to his wife catching his eye when she 15-16 while he was 30. You go so far as to say women were paid to come out against Trump. This is absurd.

          • Chip Crawford

Believing Jesus is the Messiah is one thing. Making him YOUR Messiah is another. It is clear you have not done that, because your spirit is not as his. The Holy Spirit comes into a person when they are born again, make Jesus THEIR lord, and that spirit is not harsh like yours. Christians sin, but repent, but they have the gentle Holy Spirit on the inside. You do not reflect that as yet. No one, INCLUDING YOU, is saved by mental assent. You must enter into covenant with the lord of lords.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Mark 16:16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.

          • Benny Ehud

            ok

          • Concerned Christian

We have 16 different women and the words from Trump’s own mouth.

But of course, I can’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth since he now says that the tape was fake.

So again, Trump admitted that the tape was real. Now says the tape was fake.

“It’s not a lie if you believe it”!

          • Benny Ehud

            He seems to be.

          • Chip Crawford

“But he did sexual assault women.”
Proof? If you don’t have any; it’s slander. Not your double talk – proof of sexual assault by Trump.

          • Benny Ehud

You can’t prove Jesus lived. You are going by the account of others. ‘

Trump ADMITTED to grabbing women by the private parts. Then women came out and said he did it lol What other proof do you need? Obviously, video tapes are enough for you. So, what proof would satiate you?

          • Chip Crawford

He explained face to face that he was bragging. His wife he asked her and she forgave im for the talk. She knows he wasn’t doing those things. The accusers were hired. You are so cheaply bought with lies and exaggeration in your own head. Sad the lengths delusion and deferral will take one … so sorry for you …

          • Benny Ehud

He was bragging about assaulting certain women. I don’t care if his wife forgave him. It’s not for her to forgive. She wasn’t the one he assaulted.

You’re an idiot if you believe they were hired. Oh…prove it lol

          • Chip Crawford

You’d know; and you have long since lost this debate, name caller.

          • Benny Ehud

Lost a debate? We weren’t debating. You were just defending a deplorable human being.

          • Benny Ehud

No proof? Are you delusional? He admitted on tape lol It’s his voice. It’s him. He admitted to grabbing women by their crouches. What more proof do you need?

He retweeted a video by a racist woman…today. Go check.

        • Concerned Christian

Benny when you discuss these issues, remember the immortal words of George Costanza:

“It’s not a lie if you believe it”! 🙂

This sadly applies to both Trump and many of his supporters!

          • Benny Ehud

I agree that he is delusional at times. Other times, he is just lying. He knows it’s a lie and still says it. He’ll convince himself later on.

          • Chip Crawford

Trump lies. What is it you want? A White House front lawn public hanging? You are obsessed. That keeps you from having to talk about your boys who are up to their necks.

          • Concerned Christian

No, I want the moralist in this country, i.e evangelical Christians who have bashed everyone elses morality to admit just how hypocritical they have been. To admit that in their world view “the end justifies the means”.

Then i want evangelicals to admit that if lying were the issue with Trump, we wouldn’t have an issue. The problem is that we have someone in office who is to ignorant and stupid to get anything done. A person that has spent more time bashing athletes, democrats, obsessing about being on the cover of Time magazine, and bashing Elizabeth Warren, than he has getting something as simple as a tax bill through congress.

Lying is one thing. Being immoral is another. However, ignorance and stupidity makes you truly dangerous. Do you honestly think China, Russia, Iran, N. Korea are afraid of this buffoon? Turkey beat up Americans on American soil and nothing happened.

This man is not dangerous because he’s a serial liar. No he’s dangerous because he’s a delusional idiot and he’s making conservatives and evangelicals compromise everything that they have claimed to believe in!

As for me, I think this was a good article, rather enjoyed it, and see more then a little truth here. One thing is fir sure, since Trump arrived on the scene, there has been upheaval, and a lot has either been exposed for what it is, or more clearly defined. I’m glad he is there to do just that, as it needed to be done.
