American Flag Facebook Profile Feature Generating Controversy on Independence Day Weekend

Last week, Facebook offered an option for users to put a rainbow tint over their profile photos, in order to celebrate the Supreme Court’s same-sex ‘marriage’ decision. Almost immediately afterwards, with Independence Day coming up, Right Wing News decided to offer its own version of an American flag overlay.

Some aren’t taking the American flag overlay so well, and think it is a backhanded slam at the rainbow overlay and the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Right Wing News says nothing about the feature being done in response. But whether it’s meant as a pointed reply to the rainbow overlay or meant simply to celebrate the freedoms given to us through the American Experiment on a Fourth of July weekend, a lot of people are signing up.
