Will You Join Me in Praying This Prayer?

By Mike Hayes Published on June 2, 2019

Prayer Warrior,

Many of you have already committed to pray for our President on Sunday, June 2.  Know that you’ll be joining tens of thousands of believers who desire God’s Kingdom to be advanced at the highest level of influence in our nation.

I couldn’t help but remember the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:17, ‘”Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”

This verse captured my attention once again, as I considered ‘who’ Peter was really telling the Christians addressed in his letter to pray for.  At that time, Nero was the emperor. After Rome burned to the ground (64AD), emperor Nero falsely accused the Christians of starting the fire and condemned all Christians to death on the grounds that they were guilty of “hatred toward the human race.”

Those who continued to profess Christ were rounded up, locked up, crucified, beheaded, sacrificed, dipped in oil and set on fire, or mauled to death by beasts in the colosseum. It was a life or death decision, literally, to live for Christ in Rome and her governed provinces, even as it is in many dark corners of the world today.

Having this context, I’ve found it especially convicting to read the encouraging letters Peter and Paul wrote to God’s people during that especially dark and anxious time for the church. For example, in 1 Peter 2:

“Submit yourselves for the LORD’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to his governors …”
~1 Peter 2:13

Praying for and honoring our President Donald J Trump, has little to do with our personal opinion concerning him, or even his morality or spirituality. It is ‘for the LORD’s sake.’

A Prayer for Our President

Here is a prayer I’m praying for our President and the entire Executive Branch of our government now and especially as we join with thousands on Sunday.  Will you join me in praying this prayer on Sunday?

Father, we come to You in prayer for our 45th president of the United States, Donald J Trump. First of all, we make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving for kings and all who are in high positions.

We unite with thousands across the world who lift him up before you now.  We declare that skillful and godly wisdom has entered into the heart of our President and knowledge is pleasant to him.  Father, we ask that You encompass the President with men and women who make their hearts and ears attentive to godly counsel and do that which is right in Your sight.

We ask You to cause him to be a person of integrity who is obedient to Your ways. We pray that the upright shall dwell in our highest offices of government — that blameless and complete men and women shall remain in these positions of authority, but the wicked shall be cut off from our government and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

We bind the forces of the enemy that seek to bring division, disunity, and scandal. We ask You to protect our President, his family, and every God-inspired plan You’ve put in his heart for this nation. We ask that fake news and false accusation would be uncovered and the truth will be clearly seen.

Holy Spirit, fill President Trump with Your power, Your love, and Your Presence. Undergird him with Your Hand and let him experience You in new ways.

It is written in Your Word that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord and that You turn it whichever way You desire. We believe the heart of our leader is in Your hand and ask that his decisions will be directed of the Lord. Let no enemy stop what You are doing in this nation.

In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

Additional Prayer Points

Here are some additional prayer points for our President and all those in authority:

  • To be seated with Christ, administrating from a kingdom perspective (Proverbs 21:15).

  • To maintain a pure heart and clean hands so that the laws and decrees they make will represent the integrity and authority of heaven (Psalm 24:3-6).

  • To be strengthened with inner resolve and perseverance, even in the face of growing aggression and intimidation, so that kingdom authority is fully established (Psalm 125:2-3a).
  • To be like Jesus who set His face as flint and did not waver on the promises of God (Isaiah 50:7Luke 9:51)

Friend, thank you for uniting with us in prayer.  I really believe it will make a difference.  We are on the front lines of battle and our fight is in the spirit, with prayer as our greatest weapon.

Expecting great things!
