Why Keeping Mike Johnson as House Speaker Is a Win for America

By Jonathan Alexandre Published on November 19, 2024

On Wednesday, the U.S. House Republican Conference nominated Mike Johnson to serve again as Speaker of the House. I celebrate this win, because with Donald Trump in office and the Senate in the hands of the GOP, strong leadership is needed to ensure our newly elected members in the U.S. House of Representatives deliver on the many campaign promises made.

This is a time for humble, experienced leaders to come alongside the new administration and Senate leadership to save America, and Johnson has proven he can and will do so.

As Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson has led with integrity and fairness. His steadfastness and diligence during a tumultuous administration is admirable. These qualities will be even more crucial in the days and weeks ahead as the government shifts from being divided by worldviews to being a government unified in its commitment to limited government, peace through strength, national sovereignty, and personal liberty.

Impressive Record

I have had the honor of working alongside Johnson’s office and witnessed firsthand the humility with which he leads, a quality that above all others truly does bring people together. Johnson’s ability to unite the legislative and executive branches by working hand in hand with the Senate and Trump administration is not only commendable, but will be vital in the coming months.

Indeed, the best indicator of future performance is past performance. Mike’s past performance is impeccable, leading the House in advancing policies to secure our border (HR 2), preserve election integrity (via the SAVE Act), reduce government waste (cutting the wasteful Green New Deal), and end the woke agenda and attacks on our kids (HR 5636). Perhaps most notably, given the times we live in, his first act as Speaker was following through on his promise to bring forward a resolution in support of Israel, condemning Hamas and highlighting Israel as one of our few friends in the Middle East.

His record before becoming Speaker is similarly impressive. He has demonstrated that he is not afraid to lead on commonsense issues that some consider to be controversial, ranging from censorship — having sponsored the Free Speech Protection Act — to the rule of law, having sponsored a resolution calling on the Biden administration to use all appropriate measures to guarantee public safety and protect individual rights in the wake of a series of attacks on pregnancy centers.

Johnson shows commitment and endurance, as demonstrated in the 23 floor speeches he led against the Biden-Harris administration’s “self-inflicted crisis” and Democrats’ wasteful spending.

Like most, he stands for America, its people, and the principles that make this nation great likely because, in his own words, his “faith informs everything [he does].”

America needs saving and hope right now. And as Johnson himself has stated, “God is the one who raises up those in authority.”

God raised up each current and incoming Member of Congress. And He raised up Mike Johnson. A born-again, praying leader is exactly who our Founders expected to be the third most powerful person in our country.

As we anticipate the start of the 119th Congress and the inauguration of the Trump-Vance administration, I hope and pray we will see significant victory in restoring American greatness in the country we love.
