Thousands in Four Countries Participate in ‘Sex Ed Sit Out’ Monday

By Nancy Flory Published on April 26, 2018

On Monday, April 23, many parents held their children out of school in a “Sex Ed Sit Out.” They protested the content of current sex education at public schools. The Stream’s Nancy Flory recently spoke with organizer Elizabeth Johnston, “The Activist Mommy,” to discuss how she came up with the idea of a Sex Ed Sit Out, how it went and what’s next.

What are your complaints about the sex education being taught currently?

Sex ed today across our country is not the sex ed of generations past. Children are being taught how to engage in anal and oral sex, masturbate, pleasure others, how to have orgasms, how to question their gender, and even how to get to the local birth control/abortion clinic via bus route without parents knowing about it. We have hard evidence of all the above.

Tell me about your decision to initiate a Sex Ed sit out?

I kept stumbling across outraged parents online who were sharing the graphic nature of sex education and “anti-bullying” curriculums in their children’s school. The vast majority of parents don’t want schools teaching their children how to engage in oral and anal sex and how to be promiscuous. I personally homeschool my children, but felt sorry for the parents who feel helpless to stop the stranglehold of special interest groups who are funding and pushing these graphic and dangerous programs in public schools. So some concerned moms and I networked together to launch a protest called “Sex Ed Sit Out.”

What was the purpose?

When a child doesn’t sign in at school, the school loses federal funding for that day. Since the schools aren’t listening to the cries of parents to stop corrupting their kids, we decided to hit them in their wallets. Hopefully parents will begin to have tremendous success getting school boards to listen after this.

Parents were in the dark about what schools were teaching because schools are not being transparent. Planned Parenthood and Human Rights Campaign are working in concert to push graphic Sex Education and promotion of abortion in public schools across our nation, and parents don’t even know about it.

Funding is dangled in front of the schools by these special interest groups to push this propaganda, contingent upon the schools using their curriculum. There is no transparency with parents and downright deception is being employed on the part of school administrators. Parents can’t opt their kids out of the sex ed and anti-bullying programs when they don’t even know they exist and when they are being rolled out across the curriculum in multiple subject areas.

School administrators and radical, leftist special interest groups have decided funding is more important than your child’s innocence, and parents are saying “Enough is enough! Hands off our kids!”

Tell me about the sit out. What happened?

Parents printed out our suggested letter and delivered it to their principals and did not allow their children to sign in at school on the 23rd. We also had press events and protest gatherings at a dozen locations around the globe.

Was the sit out successful?

Absolutely! Parents have awakened around the world and gotten involved in either pushing this obscene curriculum out of their schools or pulling their children out to homeschool. We have gotten messages from parents all over the globe stating that they delivered a letter to their principal and held their child out from school on the 23rd.

I got a message last night from a mom in Alberta, Canada who said, “Our town had 50 percent of high school kids stay home in the morning, after lunch it was 90 percent who stayed home, jr. high 50 percent, elementary school the same!” She was given this report by principals at a division-wide parent meeting. To think that this grassroots movement of moms with no resources reached four countries (Australia , UK, Canada, and US) and has made such an impact, is truly overwhelming!

Get the curriculum in your hands. Insist on seeing it for yourself. Administrators will be deceptive and claim there is no curriculum, only teacher resources. They will also call it by very innocent sounding names like “Family Life” or “Anti-Bullying” or “Suicide Prevention.”

What has been the backlash (if any) from mainstream media?

We actually received great coverage from pieces written by Fox News, The Washington Times, Newsweek, The Blaze, and beyond.

What can parents do for their children regarding their school’s Sex Ed program?

Get the curriculum in your hands. Insist on seeing it for yourself. Administrators will be deceptive and claim there is no curriculum, only teacher resources. They will also call it by very innocent sounding names like “Family Life” or “Anti-Bullying” or “Suicide Prevention.” Demand to see all such curriculum, all teacher resources, all videos that might be shown, etc. Parents are successfully pushing this garbage out of their school districts but they have to get loud and be willing to ruffle some feathers.

What’s next on the agenda?

Next we will sue schools for pandering obscenity to minors. This is not what we send our children to school for. We send them to school to learn reading, writing, math, science and history, not how to question their gender and engage in anal and oral sex.
