The Nightmare Scenario: What a Pan-Jihadist Assault on Israel Would Mean for America and the Free World

By Amine Ayoub Published on May 9, 2025

What happens if Hezbollah attacks Israel from the north, Hamas erupts from Gaza, Iranian proxies in Syria and Iraq launch rockets, the Houthis strike from Yemen, and chaos ignites across the region — all in coordination with each other at the same time?

This isn’t a fantasy or a war game. It’s a blueprint already being tested in slow motion — and if it accelerates, it will be the most dangerous assault on a Western ally to take place in a generation.

A full-spectrum jihadist war on Israel would not just threaten one nation — it would collapse the fragile security architecture of the Middle East, expose U.S. troops to direct fire, destabilize global markets, and embolden America’s enemies from Tehran to Moscow to Beijing.

Here’s how.

The Long Game

Iran has spent two decades building a “ring of fire” around Israel. The terrorist group Hezbollah sits in southern Lebanon with more than 150,000 rockets — some guided, and many more deadly than anything Hamas launched in October 2023. Gaza remains a staging ground for Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. In Syria and Iraq, militias operate freely, arming and positioning for long-range attacks. In Yemen, the Houthis have not only attacked Red Sea shipping channels but are already targeting Israel with missiles and drones.

Every corner of the map is lit with hostile intent. The idea of these groups acting in concert is no longer speculation — it is strategy.

Their message is simple: Israel must not survive. But their ambitions don’t stop there. These forces see the West as weak, fractured, and distracted. They believe now is the moment to push harder than ever — not just to test Israel, but to test America’s will to stand firmly alongside her.

U.S. troops stationed in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq are likely to be targeted. Bases may be hit. American supply lines may be disrupted. U.S. naval assets in the Mediterranean and Red Sea will be stretched thin. Oil prices will surge. The Suez Canal could be affected. Europe, already strained by war in Ukraine, will face another massive crisis. The message to the world will be that the West cannot protect either its allies or itself.

Unrestricted Warfare

And make no mistake: Such a war will not just be military. It will be psychological, political, economic, and digital. Expect cyberattacks on Israeli and Western infrastructure. Expect radicalization efforts targeting Muslim youth in Western capitals. Expect violent protests meant to divide and paralyze democracies. The battlefield will be everywhere.

And that’s all because the West has shown hesitation. Under Joe Biden, it left Afghanistan to the Taliban. It has tolerated Iranian aggression with minimal response. It has rewarded Hamas and Hezbollah with diplomatic ambiguity. It has allowed rogue states to use media and academia to distort reality. And in the face of a coordinated terror threat, too many Western voices are still asking if Israel is “overreacting” to all the strikes against its sovereignty and its citizens.

This strategic confusion is what invites war.

Step Up Now

Israel is not just fighting to protect its own borders. This is the test case for whether liberal democracies still have the courage to fight for their own survival. If Israel is overwhelmed, or even forced into a long, grinding, and indecisive war (like the ones in Vietnam and Ukraine), every adversary of the West will take note. China will see it as a green light to move against Taiwan. Russia will be further emboldened in Ukraine. And radical Islamists will surge forward in Africa and Southeast Asia.

If the enemies of the West believe they have the advantage, they will press harder. And if the West continues to retreat or hesitate, this won’t be the last coordinated attack. It will only be the first of many.

There is still time to prevent this nightmare. But prevention requires clarity and will. It requires Washington, Jerusalem, and every Western capital to say, “We see the storm coming, and we are not blinking.” It means reinforcing Israel militarily and diplomatically now — not later. It means deterring Iran with credible consequences. And it means shutting down the fiction that these terror groups are “resistance movements” rather than arms of a broader ideological war.

The world needs to understand this: If Israel burns, the fire will not stop at its borders. The frontline of this war may be in Haifa or Tel Aviv, but the target is the free world.

The only question is whether we are prepared to defend it.
