The Day After the Midterms, Trump Must Take the Gloves Off

By John Zmirak Published on July 20, 2018

A few days ago I laid out how grave are the stakes. The upcoming midterm elections decide it all: “Will Donald Trump finish out his term as an effective president? Or will Rep. Nancy Pelosi effectively become President?” Should the Democrats gain a majority of even a single vote, “The House will launch an open-ended, Stalinist show trial. It will respect no rules of evidence — impeachment trials don’t need to. On that day, Trump’s presidency de facto ends.”

We need to think ahead. To plan for either contingency. First let me offer a resistance plan for the worst case scenario, a Democratic blow-out.

If There’s a “Blue Wave” Here’s Our Lifeboat

Let’s say that a “blue wave” really does wash over us. Fussy, or lazy, or discontented Republicans stay home. But every teachers’ union and open borders group succeeds in getting out the vote.

Say that voters don’t get the fact that abolishing ICE will grant MS-13 and its rivals a free pass to prey on Americans nationwide. And that word of the U.S. abolishing its only deportation force will send the green light to millions more illegal immigrants — flooding the Mexican human trafficking cartels with cash.

Nope, too many American remember the fake Time magazine cover of Donald Trump scowling at a crying Central American girl who was in reality standing next to her (twice-deported) mother. They remember her sad little face. And they vote their hearts.

Or else they agree that President Trump committed treason by even questioning the integrity, professionalism, and fairness of Peter Strzok’s FBI.

Whatever concatenation of idiocies produced a Democratic landslide would demand a firm response.

Playing Defense Against the Delusional

No, we wouldn’t be able to build a Wall. But heck, we couldn’t seem to do that with both houses of Congress. Instead we’ll be playing defense against a grandstanding, energized, full-on delusional Democratic House. We won’t control the Intelligence Committee (or any others). So men like Devin Nunes won’t have the power to push back against the Deep State. Robert Mueller will continue to act as the de facto U.S. Attorney General. And he will coordinate his investigation with the House committee impeaching President Trump.

Win or lose, fire Robert Mueller.

Maxine Waters will strut her stuff. Maybe she’ll tell young Democrats in grammar school to follow Republicans’ kids home. Gather in their front yards, chanting “racist.” Keith Ellison will go from asking Amazon to ban Christian books to introducing legislation to that effect. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can solve unemployment by forbidding people from taking more than one job at a time, which (she believes) skews the numbers. No fair hogging those jobs, people! Just like the government of Israel, you must share and share alike.

So what should Trump do?

Fire Robert Mueller

Here’s what. Whoever wins, Republicans or Democrats, on November 7 President Trump should fire Robert Mueller.

If the Democrats win, why leave them a free inquisitor who only serves their fake impeachment effort?

And if the Republicans win, then Trump should treat that as a public mandate for closing down Mueller’s farcical fishing expedition for non-existent collusion. The Democrats will be free to rant about that right up through the next presidential election.

Pardon Everyone

Again, whoever wins, for the sake of simple justice, Trump should issue pardons to everyone Mueller has targeted in his out-of-control investigation. Trump should demand that Jeff Sessions revoke his recusal and take over effective control of the Department of Justice again. Or else resign. The Democrats have clearly decided to use the Deep State to criminalize any work on Republican presidential races. They can’t get away with it.

If the Democrats want to hold a show trial of the president for the whole of 2019, let them do so while Mrs. Clinton sits in custody, or out on bail.

Trump should start at the top at both the FBI and the CIA, and start firing people. We elected Trump to drain the swamp, and the past two years have shown us exactly how deep and poisonous it is. It festers with partisan bias and scorn for the common voter.

Lock Her Up

In fact, there’s just one thing Trump should do differently if the Democrats take back the House. He should demand the prosecution of Hillary Clinton for her abuse of classified intel. And for the activities of the Clinton Foundation in Haiti and Russia. If the men who serve him in the Justice Department won’t cooperate in prosecuting her obvious crimes, he should fire them, and keep firing until he finds someone who will. What can the Democrats do — add that to the bill of impeachment? Bring it on.

If the Democrats want to hold a show trial of the president for the whole of 2019, let them do so while Mrs. Clinton sits in custody, or out on bail. Don’t send her to GITMO. That would keep her snarling face off television. And we wouldn’t want that. No, let both trials happen at once, competing for TV coverage.

Let America’s unhinged left realize that two sides can play this game. If they’re willing to abuse our intelligence services, open our borders, and cripple our government for partisan gain, we will fight back good and hard. I’m not sure how much of the Bible Mr. Trump reads. But he needs to read up on Sampson.
