The Brew: JFK Didn’t Kill Himself, and Other Things We’re Learning from His Assassination Files

By John Zmirak Published on March 19, 2025

As this edition of The Brew is going to press, the long-hidden government files on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are on their way to release. It will take millions of hours for thousands of nerds to analyze their contents and report to us the highlights. The Stream has tasked our own intelligence correspondent (i.e., one of our favorite nerds) Tim Furnish with doing his share of that heavy lifting. In the meantime, we have every reason to speculate about what those files might contain.

Was the Deep State involved in the murder of an American president, and were our elites complicit in covering that up? We don’t know yet. But the Official Story of the Warren Commission stinks to high heaven, as most Americans have realized all along. The CIA had to invent the derisive term “conspiracy theory” (and disseminate it through the many publications it secretly funded and controlled) to try to deter citizens from asking awkward questions. When President Trump in his first term sought to declassify these documents, it was then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who blocked it.

Ask yourself this: If the documents just prove that Lee Harvey Oswald was a nutty lone gunman with no ties to the CIA, why block them? Why not just dump them on the public, putting most people’s questions to rest? Keep in mind that Pompeo’s loyalties weren’t to Trump, as he made clear when he went on TV to endorse the FBI’s raid of Melania’s dresser drawers. (Maybe he was auditioning for a role in the incoming Harris administration. As El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele recently opined, “Oopsie!”)

Is it really so implausible that our government’s clandestine agencies have been interfering with our democracy? We now know that Bob Woodward of Watergate fame was a CIA asset, and that the whole scandal was generated by the FBI to take down a wildly popular president — after taking down his vice president, Spiro Agnew — on the way to putting in office both a president (Gerald Ford) and a vice president (Nelson Rockefeller) whom nobody had elected. We know that Obama’s FBI illegally surveilled the Trump campaign in 2016 and set the FBI up to craft the Russia Collusion hoax after framing Gen. Mike Flynn to get him out of the way.

The Deep State Cancels Presidencies

If you’re curious about the Deep State’s role in making possible the stolen 2020 election, take the time to work your way through this very long thread by fearless reporter Emerald Robinson. You’ll see again and again that Trump’s own appointees deflected and prevaricated, running out the clock until Biden’s inauguration — while FBI agents colluded with the D.C. establishment to make sure the January 6 protest would turn into a riot, thereby spiking the Senate’s consideration of alternate electors and evidence of vote fraud. After that, compliant courts led by judges such as James Boasberg threw the book at peaceful protestors while easing the pain of provocateurs such as Ray Epps.

Are you seeing the pattern here? When the Deep State and its allies can’t fix an election, they find ways to nullify it — if not by fake impeachments, then via federal judges issuing injunctions. As The Hill reported back in 2017:

New Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday that President-elect Donald Trump is “being really dumb” by taking on the intelligence community and its assessments on Russia’s cyber activities.

“Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

“So even for a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this.”

Intelligence expert Mike Benz has exposed the fact that our CIA and associated agencies fought the Cold War in part by developing elaborate mechanisms for influencing public opinion and controlling the media — all in the name of combating Soviet Communism. Once that threat collapsed, these agencies didn’t just fold up their tents and go golfing. Instead, as Benz told Tucker Carlson, they repurposed their online expertise to combat another enemy: conservatives and Christians, who just as much as the Soviets were inimical to the secular, globalist views of Western elites. Don’t believe Benz? Then believe your lying eyes: The EU just canceled Romania’s election because it didn’t like the winner, who now is sitting in prison. Does that sound familiar — almost like what our elites tried to do to Donald Trump and his supporters?

The Real Face of Tyranny: Karen from HR

The enemy isn’t CIA or FBI agents per se. They’re errand boys, low-level “soldiers” in an organized crime syndicate. Who are the capos, the godfathers? That’s a more complicated story, which I’m sorry to say will require me to mention two long books written in the 1940s: The first is one you might have read in middle school, George Orwell’s 1984. If you recall, the crushing tyrannies that controlled the entire world in that dystopia don’t really care about their official ideologies. “English Socialism” (Ingsoc) is just a fig leaf, a set of empty slogans for apparatchiks to repeat. The real goal of Big Brother’s regime is power for its own sake, a system of total social control the novel calls Oligarchical Collectivism, whose vision is embodied in the phrase “a boot, crushing a human face, forever.”

One of Orwell’s inspirations for this classic novel was the 1941 book by ex-Communist (turned conservative) James Burnham, The Managerial Revolution. In that book, Burnham explains what Marx got right and what he got wrong. Yes, the domination of society by free enterprise and the middle class by business and property owners was coming to an end. No, the group to take power instead would not be the “international proletariat.” Workers would stay workers, and citizens would become subjects. The freedom that arose in the Christian world (especially the Anglosphere), as enshrined in our Constitution, was doomed to disappear.

The new ruling class would not be owners or workers, but managers. Bureaucrats either corporate or federal, journalists and opinion-mongers and elite-anointed “experts” would wield the real power in society, whatever formal rights we still (in theory) retained, thanks to relics like the U.S. Constitution. Elections might still take place, but they would be managed, with options carefully restricted inside a barred Overton Window that excluded any “extremists” who might purvey “misinformation” that could “cause harm.” Whatever you think the First Amendment says, Karen from HR knows better, and federal judges are going to back her to the hilt.

What’s more, elites advance policies that actively harm the public, but manufacture pretexts for ratcheting up their power. How else to explain Joe Biden waving in eight million illegal immigrants? Beyond being likely future Democratic voters, each of those people is an opportunity for bureaucrats to spend our tax money, restrict our freedom of association, and punish us with DEI initiatives. Here’s the new Prime Minister of Australia saying the quiet part out loud — that freedom of speech must be restricted because of Diversity imported by immigration. Of course, James Burnham would observe, that was the point of permitting the immigration in the first place.

If you lived through the COVID panic of 2020, you realize just how much James Burnham got right. The System in our country pulled out all the stops to fix the glitch in the Matrix that Donald Trump represented, and it isn’t finished. The team of Donald Trump and Elon Musk represent a heroic last-ditch resistance by actual business owners, entrepreneurs who believe in freedom and private property, against the advance of the Blob, the Borg, the Managerial tyranny. Stay tuned.

Trump Pushes Back Against the Tyranny’s Enforcers: Federal Judges

Once you’ve seen the pattern here, you can’t unsee it. Of course judges who came up through the law schools our elites dominate will serve the Managerial class’s interests, if need be by nullifying the lawful decisions of a mere elected president, whose only claim to power is the mandate of the grubby, ignorant masses. Steve Deace hopes these judicial sabotages won’t end well for our masters.

Let’s hope and pray that he is right.

Yes, You Were Right About COVID’s Origins, But You’re a Bad Person Anyway

The global groupthink that our Managerial masters seek to impose attained its apex during the COVID panic, when we were supposed to believe that bat soup from wet markets — not bioweapons research which Dick Cheney tasked Anthony Fauci with conducting — produced the super-virus that is COVID-19. Eventually that phony story fell apart, despite the best efforts of Fauci, Francis Collins, the World Health Organization, and censorship-happy social media companies to silence and crush truthtellers. Now one of those whistleblowers, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, is running the National Institutes of Health. So it’s time for damage control.

The New York Times is admitting that all the “conspiracy theorists” were probably right. But they’re still terrible people, and it was in very poor taste for them to disrupt the global consensus. What a bunch of cads.

Along The Stream…

Later this morning, enjoy the powerful testimonies of prisoners who found the Gospel and spiritual liberation thanks to courageous Christians who enter our nation’s correctional facilities to share those divine gifts with them.

This afternoon, be sure to read Michael Giere’s thoughtful essay on the return of freedom, reason, and popular sovereignty we’re witnessing thanks to President Trump’s bold actions — and millions of people’s prayers.
