The Brew: It’s Back to America First, Baby

By John Zmirak Published on June 25, 2025

I was pretty worried this past weekend that President Donald Trump had fallen prey to ideological fever dreams of “spreading democracy” in inhospitable Persian soil, to be watered as Iraq’s deserts were with the blood of American soldiers, persecuted Christians, and countless hapless civilians. A fool’s errand at the best of times, but we’re very far from such times — with federal judges annulling the 2024 presidential election one lawless order at a time, and states like California approaching open, 1861-level revolt against federal authority.

It appears that we alarmists weren’t completely out of our minds. Trump was mulling a regime-change war quite recently, but changed his mind when confronted with the cost, as The Times of Israel reports:

US President Donald Trump says he opposes regime change in Iran after indicating that he could back it just two days ago.

Trump tells reporters aboard Air Force One en route to The Netherlands that regime change would cause “chaos.”

Two days ago, Trump posted on Truth Social, “if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???MIGA!!!””

The White House then sought to backtrack, saying that it’s a matter for the Iranian people to decide and is not a goal of the US military.

What changed Trump’s mind? Heroic COVID panic dissenter Jeffrey Tucker offers a fascinating theory, suggesting Trump learned his lesson from his errors imposing the lockdown and developing the Dead Baby Vax:

Now things are back on track. It seems that the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities was not a Pearl Harbor surprise attack heralding a grueling, bankrupting war. Trump meant it as a “one and done” mission, as Iran’s leaders seemed to realize, limiting their retaliation to almost symbolic missile strikes on U.S. bases in Qatar, which were easily and predictably foiled.

The conflict is again between Israel and Iran, and we can go back to rooting for Israel the way we might for a favorite football team, confident that we won’t get dragged onto the field and tackled. God is good, and Trump is a better leader than even his fiercest supporters might have suspected. The virtue of Prudence is so rare among our spoiled, feckless elites that when it appears it seems like a miracle. (You know, like a certain dodged bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania.)

But not everyone in the GOP is happy about the ceasefire Trump keeps trying to broker between Israel and Iran:

Jihadis Kill Christians in Syria

Remember that the same neoconservatives who promise a flourishing, tolerant democracy in Iran spent 15 years trying to overthrow the secular regime of Bashir Assad in Syria — demanding U.S. aid for the al Qaeda thugs Sen. John McCain called “moderate rebels.” These regime changers got their wish, and now al Qaeda veterans rule Syria and are persecuting religious minorities, while the Islamic State directly hunts Syrian Christians. Here’s a clip from the funeral of the latest Christian victims:

Pray for the fallen and the surviving believers in this ancient cradle of the Church, which is turning into a graveyard. And never treasure any illusions about Islam, its nature, or its intentions.

The Christians in Syria aren’t just mourning, though. In fact, they’re not backing down:

God keep them strong and reward their courage in clinging to the Cross.

Our Diversity Is Our Strength

Now that a second Vietnam War is off the table, it’s time for Trump to get busy delivering on the issue that got him elected: Reversing the migrant invasion the Biden regime enabled and repatriating outlaws who broke into our country. What happens to countries that don’t send intruders home? Here are just a few recent highlights/low points from supine, colonized Europe:

Anarcho-Tyranny in the Golden State

The indispensible Revolver News reports on what honest American citizens and law enforcement personnel face in California, where Governor Gavin Newsom is defying our country’s laws to please his foreign constituents:

For weeks now, Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, and their press stooges have been waving off the pro-illegal/Anti-ICE riots tearing through Los Angeles and other US cities. It got so bad, President Trump had to call in the National Guard and Marines, while Dems and the media fought him every step of the way and acted like the lawkeepers were the real threat.

Well, the ugly truth is finally leaking out, and it’s nothing close to what they’ve been feeding you on the 6 o’clock news. Thanks to makeshift LAPD whistleblowers, who are risking their livelihoods to tell the truth, we now know what’s actually happening on the ground. There are break-ins at ICE detention centers, violent jailbreaks with homemade bombs, mobs ambushing federal agents, and city leadership tying law enforcement’s hands in the name of “sanctuary.”

The upshot of the story? Marxist nonprofits funded by the state and city governments are organizing the riots that target cops and ICE agents. Sounds kind of secessionist, doesn’t it? Time for a hardline federal crackdown before California actually leaves the Union, joins the anti-American BRICS coalition, and acquires nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, in the social justice paradise that is Newsom’s California, young girls are being enslaved, thanks to laws pushed by the LGBTQ lobby:

Supreme Court Restores Presidential Powers

Zero Hedge offers some encouraging news on the battle between the president and rogue judges trying to create U.S. immigration policy by fiat:

The US Supreme Court just lifted a lower court’s order that required the Trump administration to give people 10 days’ notice and a chance to object before deporting them to a third country.

The United States is facing a crisis of illegal immigration, in no small part because many aliens most deserving of removal are often the hardest to remove,” Solicitor General John Saur wrote in an emergency application to the court in May.

“When illegal aliens commit crimes in this country, they are typically ordered removed. But when those crimes are especially heinous, their countries of origin are often unwilling to take them back. As a result, criminal aliens are often allowed to stay in the United States for years on end, victimizing law-abiding Americans in the meantime.”

The brief unsigned order came in the case known as Department of Homeland Security v. D.V.D. with (surprise, surprise) Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Elena Kagan dissenting from the decision, who said they “cannot join so gross an abuse” of the high court’s authority.

I’m just relieved that Amy Coney Barrett didn’t join the liberal dissenters, as she has on so many related cases recently. Maybe some of her Catholic friends have been praying for her instead of just complaining about her, as I do.
