The Brew: Hey Democrats, Midterms Are Coming

We woke up Wednesday morning with President Donald Trump’s speech to the joint session of Congress still fresh on our minds — not only his powerful words, which some people are saying is one of the best presidential speeches ever delivered, but for the way fully half of the people in the chamber before him reacted to it.

For instance: The Democrats only cheered for continuing to fund the bloody war in Ukraine, which Trump is trying to end as peacefully as possible as soon as possible. They couldn’t rise to their feet to honor any of the innocent people present — many of whom had suffered great tragedies — because Trump was the one who was honoring them. And they had zero response when he announced that the terrorist behind the Abbey Gate bombing that claimed the lives of 13 American servicemembers during the Biden administrations botched withdrawal from Afghanistan had been captured and will face justice on our soil.

But while we were busy getting to work writing about all these things (and many others), White House Press Security Karoline Leavitt beat us to it. (Great minds think alike!) Rather than echo her studious press briefing, we thought we would let you hear it for yourselves — but first, here are two key takeaways from it.

1. Democrats Now on Record for Voting Against Women’s Rights

Before Trump’s address, the women of the House and Senate held a meeting in which they agreed to wear pink to “show solidarity with the women of America.” It’s not really clear what they meant by that, except that it was their way of protesting Trump (slightly more socially acceptable than some hats they may have worn in the past). Some of them also changed from pink during the day to black at the address itself in order to express their “mourning” over Trump’s “antiwoman” policies, claiming that he “betrays women” for “billionaire tax cuts.” How sweet.

If only the women (and men) who did this would put actions to their words. For example, so far this session, 12 bills with the word “woman” somewhere in the title have been introduced in Congress — but only two have passed the House: Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 and the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act. Those are common-sense bills that most voters of every demographic stripe can (and do) support — but they fly against the ideologies many Democrat politicians hold most dear. So, shamefully, most Democrats in Congress did not “show up” or “show out” for women with their votes for these bills.

What’s most surprising is that their actions don’t represent their constituents’ will. According to a NYT/IPSOS poll conducted back in January, 67% of Democrat voters believe men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. So one has to ask: How will this effect votes in the 2026 midterms?

2. Acting Like Kids Don’t Matter

Democrats are so disdainful of Trump that they couldn’t even muster a clap when he honored a 13-year-old fighting brain cancer, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, by naming him an honorary member of the U.S. Secret Service. Nor could they rise from their seats when he named a national wildlife refuge in honor of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered in Houston, Texas, by two alleged Tren de Aragua gang members last June.

Good Luck With Your Campaigns

If they’re smart, many of those Democrats may one day regret their actions during the joint address. At least, they will by the time they begin campaigning for the midterms, since the American people reacted mostly positively to Trump’s speech:

The “straw that broke the camel’s back” for the Democrat Party when that time comes will likely be policies regarding children — parents being labeled “terrorists” simply because they want to keep pornographic grooming materials out of schools, boys competing against and injuring girls in scholastic sports, transgender issues, etc. These are the issues that throw the striking differences between what those on Capitol Hill say and the views of American people into stark relief. Democrats and Republicans on the Hill would do well to listen to voters if they want to keep or gain seats come the 2026 midterms.
