The Brew: DOJ Shoots Blank in Effort to Target Pro-Life Activist, CNN Nixes Plan to Do Comedy Show

Happy Tuesday! Boy, did January go quickly!

Our Brew opens with a blend called “Justice.”

Pro-Life Activist Acquitted!

The Department of Justice weaponized the FACE Act to persecute pro-life activists in the wake of Roe’s demise. Well, that weapon just shot a blank.

Matt Houck was acquitted of violating the FACE Act. Houck got charged a year after an incident where he confronted a Planned Parenthood escort who was verbally harassing his young son. The DOJ melodramatically accused the father of seven of using “force with the intent to injure, intimidate, and interfere with anyone because that person is a provider of reproductive health care.” The DOJ used the incident as an opportunity to storm a slew of federal agents into Houck’s home. Send a message.

Well, on Monday, the jury sent a message to Merrick Garland. “Not so fast, Jack.” Or should I say “Jackboots”?

Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society said the Houcks were thrilled with the outcome:

Mark and his family are now free of the cloud that the Biden administration threw upon them. We took on Goliath — the full might of the United States government — and won. The jury saw through and rejected the prosecution’s discriminatory case, which was harassment from day one. This is a win for Mark and the entire pro-life movement. The Biden Department of Justice’s intimidation against pro-life people and people of faith has been put in its place.

See Nancy Flory’s news report for more details, including Houck in his own words.

Trump: ‘We Need the Blessing of God.’ Us: ‘Amen.’

At the close of his South Carolina campaign event Saturday night, former President Donald Trump said “We need the blessing of God.” As I argue in my article of yesterday, “Yes, Mr. President. We Need the Blessing of God. And So Do You. (And I Think You Finally Know It.)

Huh? Social Media Bad for Kids … But Not Puberty Blockers

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murphy says children shouldn’t be allowed on social media until they are between 16 and 18. Murphy argues social media gives kids a “distorted” sense of self during their formative years. “I believe that 13 is too early.” No argument here. The social isolation. The bullying. The peer pressure. The political manipulation. The exploitation. The cautionary tale of how Chloe Cole was groomed by social media into becoming transgender is just one example.

Which gets us to the head-scratching part. The same administration that now thinks social media for 13-year-olds is too damaging is also pushing “gender affirming care” for teens and younger. Using cat filters on Instagram, bad. Castration, good.

Surfing TikTok and Twitter, bad. Severing your healthy breasts, good.

There is the sickness of the age. Say kids can have a “distorted” sense of self because of social media and mainstream media heads nod. Say that a kid who has a sense of self so distorted that he thinks he’s really a different sex and should undergo surgery … and you’re canceled.

Cover-Up: Treasury Won’t Hand Over Info on Hunter

The same Treasury Department that gleefully handed over Donald Trump’s tax returns to the Democrats is refusing to give the House Oversight Committee information on the 150 or so instances where Hunter Biden was flagged for a suspicious transaction.

Treasury says it needs more clarity on why the House Oversight Committee needs the “highly sensitive” info. They know why. Chairman James Comer told them. He’s investigating Hunter Biden’s shady international business dealings and how they connect to the Big Guy.

Treasury claimed that the “improper disclosure” of those types of records might “undermine the executive branch’s conduct of law enforcement, intelligence, and national security activities.”

Except, as Hot Air points out, “The records in question involve Hunter Biden. He holds no elected office and has no responsibilities involving law enforcement, the intelligence community, or anything to do with national security.”

Meanwhile, the Biden DOJ told the House Judiciary Monday that it can’t have communications pertaining to the wayward Biden classified documents. Would risk the special counsel investigation, they say.

Biden Visits Baltimore to Talk Infrastructure, Blows Off Question About Special Counsel

Joe Biden went to Baltimore Monday to discuss the replacement of the historic, but crumbling, Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel.

He should have left a trail of classified documents behind him to trace his way back to the White House.

When he arrived back, Biden literally brushed away a question about whether he’d testify before the special counsel if asked.

Of course, with Biden you have to seriously ask, “Does he really not know about the special counsel?” Benefit of the doubt says he was just being dismissive.

Meanwhile, the Big Guy gave his word “as a Biden” that America’s future looks good. He said he told Rosa Parks the same thing when they sat together on that bus in Montgomery.

Seriously, we know what Biden’s word is like:

Looks Like CNN Will Remain a Joke … Without Comedy

Remember the story a few weeks back that CNN was considering putting a comic like Jon Stewart or Bill Maher in its 9 to 11 slot? (Interesting idea … if it were 2005.)

The Los Angeles Times asked new CEO head Chris Licht about the rumor. He shot it down quickly.

I worked on a comedy show. And it took over 200 people to produce an actual comedy show. So no, I would not be so foolish as to, in one fell swoop, hurt the brand of comedy and news by trying to do a comedy show on CNN.

Start with baby steps. Don’t put people on the air who are smug sourpusses. Start with that. Then work your way up to someone who happens to be funny. Seriously, the problem for CNN programming a more entertaining prime time show? Finding a liberal with any joy, let alone someone enjoyable enough to want to spend two hours watching.
