The Brew: Could Gov. Whitmer’s Creepy Mockery of Catholics Cost Harris Pennsylvania — and the Race?

Happy Friday!

First off, a tip of the Brew to the first responders and line workers who rescued hundreds of people and have been sweating to restore electricity to the nearly four million Floridians who lost power.

With that in mind, we want to open with this beautiful scene in Georgia, where the good folks of Tooms County came out to applaud a group of line workers who left their homes to come help turn the lights on after Hurricane Helene.

Meanwhile, Milton couldn’t knock down the Mouse. Disney World and other Orlando attractions will reopen today. However, the Pirates of the Caribbean have filed an insurance claim on damage their ship suffered during the storm.

The Politics of the Storm

After delivering his remarks on Hurricane Milton yesterday, Joe Biden began ranting again about Donald Trump being “un-American” for echoing the complaints from the ground about the anemic federal response to Helene. Biden was then asked if he had spoken to Trump. “Are you kidding me?” he said before looking into the camera. “Mr. President Trump, former President Trump, get a life man, help these people.”

What an odd answer, considering Trump raised tens of millions of dollars and flew in a planeload of supplies for Helene victims before Biden even got off the beach, and is currently housing nearly 300 Florida line workers at his Doral Golf Course. But beyond that, considering Trump has a better-than-average shot of being the president who will have to administer the federal government’s long-term rebuilding efforts, to say nothing of being a builder himself, what’s so ridiculous about getting him on the horn?

By the way, every day Biden is out there is a day Kamala Harris has lost in her campaign. And as “scared to death” Democratic strategist James Carville pointed out on MSNBC, the days are running out for her. 

The Politics of “Weird”: Gwen Walz Sings and Gretchen Whitmer Mocks the Sacrament

One of the strangest accusations of the 2024 election cycle has been the charge made by the Left that J.D. Vance and/or Donald Trump are “weird.” It is even more surreal when one remembers Tim Walz started that rumor, considering he has made quite a name for himself while on the campaign trail for the crazy facial expressions he often makes. But two new videos making the rounds indicate he doesn’t have a corner on that market.

First is this clip of Tim Walz’s wife Gwen singing.  

So much for singing for tips to pay for the stuff Walz didn’t pay for at that café Wednesday. But more crucially, she is singing new lyrics to the Marine Corps theme song. First, there was the issue of her husband’s stolen valor. Now she’s stealing a melody?

Yet even Mrs. Walz’s songbirding does not compare to a clip of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer feeding Doritos to a liberal podcaster kneeling on the floor before her. Apparently doing something like this is a TikTok trend, according to the NY Post. But really?

Catholic Vote is right. This isn’t just weird behavior. “How else can this be interpreted other than mockery of Catholics and the sacrament of Holy Communion?”

“Many Catholics are going to see this as mocking the communion rail,” Tim Graham, of NewsBusters, stressed on X. “Except Catholics don’t make it look sensual.”

Whitmer also mocked “post-birth abortion” — also known as infanticide. Or in this case, murder, since the podcaster is referring to Whitmer’s daughters, who are both in their early twenties.

Note that Whitmer was wearing a Harris-Walz ballcap in the first clip, and that she is a top Harris surrogate; Harris herself has been widely accused of having an anti-Catholic bias.

In another example of liberal mockery of Christianity, former CNN host Don Lemon last week remarked – call it “joked” if you want to be generous — that Joseph, the husband of Jesus’s mother, Mary, was a “gay guy.”

As National Catholic Register reported in September, Catholics will play a big role in the swing counties in the swing state of Pennsylvania, like Lehigh, Northhampton, and Bucks. Will Whitmer’s Dorito-as-Eucharist stunt cost Harris votes?

Catholics could decide the whole election if they come out in Pennsylvania.

That’s something to chew on.  

TV host and author Liz Wheeler, commenting on the Whitmer story, posted, “It’s wild that some Christians refuse to vote when Democrats obviously loathe you … because you’re Christian.”

NY High School Students to Walk Out Over Biological Males in Girls’ Sports

As we mentioned previously, yesterday was XX-XY Day, honoring female athletes and the fight to protect them and the integrity of their sports.

October 24 will be another big day. High school students in New York are planning to stage a walk-out over transgender athletes in girls’ sports. The event, sponsored by the Coalition to Protect Kids, is called “Walk Off for Fairness Day.”

The protest is also part of the fight against New York’s Proposition 1, which voters will be deciding in November. As The National Pulse reports, Prop 1 would not only codify the right to abortion on demand into the New York State Constitution, but “includes language that could allow male-born athletes identifying as females to participate in girls’ and women’s sports.”

Shamefully, supporters are calling Prop 1 the “Equal Rights Amendment.” Can you imagine a greater insult to the women of earlier generations who fought for the ERA? Do you think in their worst nightmares they ever imagined the term would be used to apply to men being allowed to compete in women’s events?

As we’ve repeatedly pointed out the past couple years, the rights of women and girls are getting trampled under males’ size 10 sneakers, cleats, and locker room shower slippers.

Finally … Who’s Surprised? Would-Be Terrorist Worked for CIA in Afghanistan

Remember the Afghan national who was arrested recently for planning a terrorist attack on Election Day? The one the Biden-Harris administration brought into the country a couple of weeks after the disastrous military withdrawal from Afghanistan?

Seems he had worked as a guard for the CIA in his home country. The only surprise? The FBI hasn’t yet said that Nasir Ahmad  Tawhedi was someone “known to the agency.”
