The Affogato: Newsom Forgets the Law; Dallas Cancels Pro-Israel Summit Over Safety Concerns
Plus, Day 6 of Where in the World is John Zmirak?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 08: Waymo cars burn during immigration raid protests on June 08, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
Well, that escalated quickly.
California Timeline
Yesterday we gave you a recap of the immigration riots taking place in Los Angeles. Today, there is more bad news… if you’re President Donald Trump. California Governor Gavin Newsom is now suing him for using the National Guard to restore law and order to the streets of the beleaguered city.
But first, let’s recap with a short timeline of how things began and boiled over so badly that Trump had to send in the National Guard.
June 6: Federal immigration authorities executed search warrants at several locations across LA, leading to 44 arrests. Outside a clothing warehouse, a tense scene unfolded as rioters tried blocking a moving ICE vehicle. LA Mayor Karen Bass responded by saying, “We will not stand for this” — by which she meant ICE conducting a raid, not the protest against ICE.

June 7: Confrontations broke out just south of Los Angeles at a Department of Homeland Security office. Video emerged on X of agents using what appeared to be tear gas, flash-bang explosives, rubber bullets, and pepper balls to disperse the protesters hurling rocks and cement at Border Patrol vehicles. After protestors set a car on fire in Compton, the Trump administration authorized 2,000 National Guard troops to restore order. Newsom protested, saying, “The federal government is sowing chaos so they can have an excuse to escalate.” Um … sure, OK.

June 8: Tensions escalated as thousands of protesters took to the streets, blocking off a major freeway and setting driverless cars on fire as local law enforcement used tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash bangs to control the crowd. Yet again, Newsom accused Trump of “inflaming tensions” and asked him to rescind his order and put the National Guard troops under Newsom’s command.

Yesterday, Trump also authorized 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton near San Diego to join the National Guard in LA, and Newsom repeated Bass’s line about the federal enforcement efforts, saying, “We cannot let it stand” in an X post in which he accused the Trump administration of “manufacturing the crisis” and “creating fear and terror to take over a state militia and violate the U.S. Constitution.” Right.
NEW: We are suing Donald Trump.
This is a manufactured crisis. He is creating fear and terror to take over a state militia and violate the U.S. constitution.
The illegal order he signed could allow him to send the military into ANY STATE HE WISHES.

It’s time for Newsom to read up on Article 10 of U.S. Code § 12406, which states, “the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion, or execute those laws.” At least we now know where Newsom gets his news from: ABC 7 Los Angeles anchor Marc Brown said this is all “just a bunch of people having fun watching cars burn.”

Whatever happened to going to the beach and roasting marshmallows over a bonfire? That’s good, wholesome fun. This is anarchy.
Israel Summit Canceled
The Israel Summit, one of the largest pro-Israel events in the U.S., was going to be a three-day event in Dallas that started yesterday. But it’s been postponed indefinitely due to escalating terror threats from homegrown, pro-Hamas jihadist groups, leaving organizers unable to secure a safe venue. The event was expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees, including in-person and livestream participants, and would have featured a high-profile lineup of speakers, including Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, and The Land of Israel Network founder Ari Abramowitz, as well as prominent media figures, rabbis, IDF veterans, and survivors of the October 7 massacre.
Ten days ago, organizers were prompted to switch from the original venue in Dallas to a different one outside the city due to heightened threat levels and security costs estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to CBN.
