Standing Together Against Evil

Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., left and Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, managers of the congressional baseball teams, reflect on the shooting at a practice where a gunman wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and two Capitol police officers in Alexandria, Va., during a news conference at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

As long as the media, entertainers, and other public figures blatantly mock God, authority and laws, we will continue to witness horrific manifestations of evil like we saw in the attack on GOP representatives and senators in Alexandria, Virginia. If Americans continue to cast aside the principles upon which freedom stands, the blessings freedom offers will be lost. There is no substitute for the power of transforming truth that sets us free and keeps us free.

This latest senseless and evil act was not caused by the election of President Trump, his administration, or what he is trying to accomplish for America. The worthy goals he seeks to fulfill are, in fact, necessary to help bring such evil action under control.

It is perfectly appropriate and essential for our nation’s leaders to call for prayer and divine guidance. This call from President Trump, Senator Schumer, Speaker Paul Ryan and others is the right immediate step. Do not accept the foolishness of any individuals or media personalities who attack these calls as somehow unconstitutional or out of place. Prayer is in perfect harmony with the heart of our founding fathers, the spirit of our Constitution, and that which is essential for the future of freedom.

Evil is a Present Reality

Every one of us is distracted by evil, often defeated by evil, divided by evil and, tragically, sometimes destroyed by evil. Evil is a present reality; and calling good evil, or evil good, or light darkness does not solve the problem. Evil affects every one of us on the planet in this present age and will until we are in the kingdom to come, where there will be no evil. Although we are all distracted by it, often deceived, and defeated by it, this individual shooter at the baseball field was sold out to and controlled by evil.

Many of the active forces we witness around the world are acts perpetrated by people who have sold out to evil, and those forces must be resisted and destroyed. This is the rule of God-ordained authority and government of the people, by the people and for the people. (Read Romans 13:1-4.)

A Return to Righteousness and Unity

The heated rhetoric must cease on all sides. Instead of name-calling we must be calling on the name.

Right now, it is critically important that everyone who has a relationship with God the Father and Creator pray fervently for a supernatural awakening and a return to true righteousness and unity that only truth can make possible. The invitation from God, “Come now, and let us reason together,” is an invitation to the entire nation to come and reason together. Though our “sins be as scarlet they will become as white as snow.”

There is no substitute for repentance and a return to God. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19).

The heated rhetoric must cease on all sides. Instead of name-calling we must be calling on the name.

God still promises, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14). There is hope for the healing God freely offers to those who follow that glorious pathway.

One of the misconceptions that exists is that there are good people and there are evil people. With this view then who has to change? The evil person, clearly. There is no reason a “good” person has to change. Yet, who is the good person? It’s always the other guy because we humans tend to see ourselves as good. We excuse our behavior. How many times have you cursed someone who cuts you off in traffic yet turn around and cut someone off in traffic?

We expect politians to lie but we deplore a liying politians. Yet, do you lie yourself?

Is there a difference between hate and murder? The Scalise shooter hatted long before he murdered.

Is there a difference between lust and adultry?

Can one love both God and money?

I think our culture will suffer so long as the good person/ evil person paradigm dominates.

My friend, you seem to be making a valid, compelling point, because the Word of God unambiguously teaches there’s NO such thing as “good people”; though I’m sure that comes as a major-shock to most people. (See biblical passage below.)

However, please consider that true, genuine lasting change for we rational/moral Homo sapiens “made in God’s image” – meaning actual inner “heart” transformation, as in receiving a “new heart” through one being supernaturally “born again” from above (e.g., John 3:3-8) – is beyond human power to bring about, according to the Word of God as well.

Oh yes, we can typically reform, re-do, or temporarily interrupt our behavioral patterns for various times and seasons; but we specially-created “spiritual creatures,” inhabiting this “physical” fleshly body, are absolutely powerless to affect the “non-physical” reality of being marred by SIN, resident within ALL of “fallen” humanity – unless Almighty God, “who is Spirit,” intervenes on one’s behalf. (i.e., John 6:63; Mark 7:14-23).

And this must be why the Lord Jesus emphatically stated to Nicodemus, “a teacher in Israel”: “Marvel not that I say unto you, YOU MUST be born again” (John 3:7 – emphasis added).

But notice what mankind finds below about his/her self in the Bible, of which is the very omniscient (thus accurate) diagnosis of US ALL; whose ONLY lasting/eternal cure, is humbly approaching the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness of our sins, and a relationship with Almighty God – based upon the death, burial, and physical/bodily resurrection of His Son alone.

Then, and only then, can a former morally bankrupt individual (like myself), ever hope to become a “good” person, simply because of the indwelling of His Holy Spirit in MY now-transformed heart! Yet WE “fallen” human beings in our hopelessly sinful condition, continue to tragically resist His loving, compassionate, and truly merciful “call.” Why???

      * * *

“What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written,

“There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving,” “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”; “Their feet are swift to shed blood, Destruction and misery are in their paths, And the path of peace they have not known.”

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for ]through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:9-23).

  • Hmmm…

The scriptural call to come and reason together (sayeth God) is to come to him, not come to one another. That is frequently miss-applied. Those who draw near to God have a way of becoming right with one another. It is the grace God supplies that makes things good, not people getting together with their godless, unrepentant hearts and minds trying to work things out.
The Church must reach our generation with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ – Now. They shall all know him from the least of them to the greatest rolls up from my spirit many a time when my mind grows quiet. Many have seen and are calling for another Great Awakening in this nation, that the hearts and minds of its people be turned to God. Many more need to join in that cry. The diminished voice of the living God in our country has put it in the process of going from being blessed to being cursed.

  • Howard Rosenbaum

Right. This nation is dealing w/something bigger than they can wrap their minds around. At least the mind’s not enlightened by the revelation of God’s precepts & principles. Yes, it seems to be a step in the right direction when political factions agree , at least generally in a “call to prayer’. Sure, everybody , even atheists may come upon an occasion to pray when the pressure is great enough or others when their religiosity compels them. Then there are those , like Mr Robison who, if I’m not mistaken have discovered a life that speaks volumes in regard to their application of this vital faith connect w/God . We all have a share to some degree in what it is that set this nation apart from every other nation on the planet. Sure theres plenty of grief & strife to go around. Theres more than enough impoverishment , entitlement & embarrassment apparent to even the casual observer. Theres also a call upon this nation. It’s a call that is ignored at great peril. Too many & for too long have either intentionally, ignorantly or just haphazardly discounted this God mandated call.
This land upon which they so carelessly tread cannot sustain itself indefinitely w/out a remnant who will appropriate God’s purpose’s for this nation & it’s destiny. Mr Robison is correct in calling this country back to it’s higher calling . Sure, we will always have among us those who will mock & scorn at the suggestion that God has any place in the bigger picture, short of saving their hide in that proverbial foxhole. So what. It is we, His people that can effect affirmative change in this nation. Just think , as bad as some things appear, had it not been for God’s mercy & that remnant ,this country would have already bowed it’s knee to the little foxes & large Goliath’s waiting on line for their turn at the plate …..

I would take this a step further than just ending heated rhetoric and PLEAD WITH EVERYONE to THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE ACTIONS THAT ARE ALLOWED! How about the TIDAL WAVE of baseless attacks on the President…Russia gate, the lawsuits against him that are based in simple hatred and the desire to destroy – that’s DESTROY – his presidency. How about stopping George Soros and all the organizations that are fomenting violence in the name of free speech! Close down things like the play in the park with an actor dressed as the President – THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MIND YOU – as the subject of assassination! All of this is pure partisan hatred and evil in the name of power and is EQUAL to what this gunman did! All of this sends a clear message that ANYONE THAT DISAGREES WITH THE PARTISAN LEFT IS INHUMAN AND FAIR GAME FOR DESTRUCTION. WAKE-UP!!

The Swampish Inquisition is no different than all Inquisitions that have a predetermined consequence – sedition and the overthrow of a President elected by We the People.
How, then, can there be unity?
In 24 hours the Democrat/communist cult party will revert to its goal: destroy the US Constitution and NEVER AGAIN allow the people to elect a President.
But the tensions and absolutes have ratcheted up a notch on the bar to either have a Constitutional government that truly supports freedom of religion, speech, private property ownership, church property ownership, etc. OR to hand all liberty and freedom over to a bloated government run for the oligarchy by wealthy moguls who are determined to have a One World Government.
If those rich game-players read the Bible they should know they are dupes and will not survive the anti-Christ who comes to rob, destroy and kill. One World Government will come, but not until the Restrainer has been taken away.
Until then, one must choose whom they will serve. As for me and my house, I will serve the Lord.

Why don’t you wear a turban if you want the Christian version of sharia law in this country? God very plainly says “My Kingdom is not of this world” and anyone attempting to force it be of this world is trying to force God into their mold and that’s not going to turn out well for them.

    • Wayne Cook

Chris…trying praying with the rest of us.

      • Christine Wright

If you first read my response to Bernie above.. let it be known I DO pray for us all, every day. I lift this nation up to God and ask for His Perfect Will to be done, for the unsaved to come to the saving knowledge of Christ, and for His people to have a greater understanding of Him, and a greater relationship with Him. But 2 Chronicles 7 was fulfilled long ago. God’s people are all over this world now.. we aren’t a nation with borders.. Israel is God’s people, and we are everywhere.

    • Bernie Burnbaum

“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” His kingdom is of heaven. Our job is to bring it here. Not by force, because we cannot and should not try to force a spiritual birth, but by our service and example. Spurning God’s kingdom on earth is spurning God’s presence.

      • Christine Wright

God’s will. God’s will can be perplexing, and can at times seem contradictory in scripture. For instance, God does not will that we sin right? 2 Peter 3:9 says: “The Lord is not late concerning his promise, as some count lateness, but is patient with us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Therefore,we can easily see that God does not will that we sin. Yet, in the circumstances surrounding the death of Christ, God did indeed will sin, in order to bring about His Perfect will. We see in Acts 4:27-28 It is written: “Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.” What they did was sin, yet, God willed it to happen, He didn’t just know it would happen, He willed it so in His absolute sovereignty.

In the Book of Revelation, we see the same willing of God that on its surface appears contradictory. Revelation 17 shows us this clearly. In verse 17 we see ” For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God’s words are fulfilled.” The matter of Revelation 17 is clear. The Beast rises from the pit (17:8) the 10 horns are the 10 kings (v.12) and they make war on the Lamb (v. 14). Waging war against the Lamb is sin, and sin is contrary to the will of God, nevertheless the angel says clearly that God has put it into their hearts to accomplish His Purpose.

This all implies that God’s prophesies are not just predictions based on God’s foreknowledge, but rather, are divine intentions that God works to bring about, in accordance with His Perfect Will.

This leaves us with a different understanding of God’s will which, in conclusion we can assess that we need to distinguish between what God would like to see happen, and what he actually Wills or decrees to happen. God would like all to come to salvation, but have only given some in the hand (or power) of His Son, and there is no contradiction in this.

How is it I wonder, that my answer to you filled with Biblical quotes and my thoughts in response to what husband said, get marked as spam? Is it that on an article where the Bible is quoted, the biblical answer not be spoken?
