Joy Break: Singer Who Earned Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent Will Lead Worship for OneRace Stone Mountain

When we turn on our television or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? Those stories are still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

The part-time worship leader and pediatric nurse who blew away Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent earlier this summer is gearing up to lead worship at OneRace Stone Mountain on August 25.

The Golden Buzzer

Michael Ketterer’s stirring June performance of “To Love Somebody” at America’s Got Talent brought the audience roaring to its feet. The notoriously curmudgeon-like Simon Cowell was so impressed that he hit the show’s so-called “Golden Buzzer.” The buzzer means the performer skips right to the live shows.

Ketterer’s golden buzzer moment had added significance. He had told the judges he wanted to show his six children that if their dad could succeed, they could, too. His one biological daughter and five adopted children from foster care joined him on stage as the confetti fell.

After years with the worship band United Pursuit, Ketterer left to form Influence Music in California. On August 25, the singer will lead the worship at OneRace Stone Mountain. OneRace will be a time of worship and prayer for racial reconciliation.

OneRace released a statement on their website about the event:

Let’s initiate a movement rooted in prayer, relationship, and justice that will culminate in a gathering of worship and intercession at Stone Mountain! On August 25, 2018 we’ll gather leaders of all races, cultures, and denominations from across our region. We will unite together in prayer and worship to demonstrate our unity in Christ, and seek to transform the culture of the Church. Let’s humble ourselves before God to release a movement of revival & racial reconciliation!

Watch Ketterer’s performance on America’s Got Talent. But be warned. You’ll want a hankie.

Stream contributor Josh Shepherd will be at OneRace Stone Mountain, speaking with several leaders and music artists. Watch the event live stream Saturday and look for complete coverage next week on The Stream.
