Samsung Developing App to Connect Mothers to Their Preemie Babies

In a new video released Saturday, Samsung detailed the company’s latest endeavor — connecting mothers to their preemie babies.

The initiative, called “Voice of Life,” aims to boost healthy brain development in premature babies which, according to the company, face a higher risk of developing language and attention deficits.

Piloted by the company’s Launching People campaign, the app would transmit the mother’s heartbeat — picked up by her phone’s heart rate sensor — and voice recordings to a special speaker in the baby’s incubator. According to the video’s description, the audio “will be ‘wombified’ for the baby’s ears (a process which removes high frequencies not present in the womb).”
