Ready for the King James Emoji Bible?

If you think that the King James Version is unapproachable, worrieth not. The Bible will soon be coming to a language that you can 👀Bible Emoji, the self-proclaimed “Scripture 4 Millennials,” was published on Apple iBooks Sunday.

The creator of Bible Emoji, publicly known only as 😎, says that the goal is to make the Bible more accessible. In an interview with The Memo, the author said, “A major goal of this whole process was to take a book that I think is very non-approachable to lay readers and try to make it more approachable by removing a lot of its density”

The author claims that Bible Emoji contains the full KJV text with 10% to 15% less characters.

As part of the process, the author created a emoji translator to make the traditional KJV text more readable. “Eventually,” 😎 said, “I created an actual translator program with a list of 80 different emoji icons, and 200 corresponding words. In addition: I built in some common shorthand — so that ‘and’ became &, and ‘first’ became 1st.”

So far, the Bible Emoji has been met with mixed emotions on its Twitter page. “I’ve received a lot of tweets,” 😎 told The Memo, “some very nice some very, not nice.”

A similar project was attempted in 2014 on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, but it failed to take off. Kamran Kastle, who ran the earlier project, had a slightly different take than 😎. Instead of mixing text and emoticons, Kastle sought to completely remove words, using only emoji.
