Preventing the Rise of Lady Bedlam

By Joachim Osther Published on November 5, 2024

Christians, it’s not too late.

A sliver of time remains to kick the bleachers and stir the millions of nonvoting Christians who are naively watching from the sidelines, convinced that abstention in this raucous election is the more righteous choice.

But what else can be said about this that has not already been said?

How can we help our friends who are planning not to vote today see that there are no sidelines – that their bleachers are firmly planted in the middle of a train track? That the societal tremors are not transient and the distant rumbling they feel is the coming progressive bullet train?

If they won’t heed the wise counsel of prescient Christians like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Francis Schaeffer, then perhaps the entreaty of someone more contemporary will make the bleachers sufficiently cold and uncomfortable.

Words of Warning and Hope

Speaking at the National Faith Advisory Board summit last week, the outspoken and fearless Englishman, Father Calvin Robinson, delivered a sobering message about the rise of a Marxist-tinged Left in the context of England’s fading Christianity and mass immigration policies. (And if that isn’t enough, you can also read about the things that have been taking place there at these links recently published on The Stream.)

Robinson said:

I come in love with a warning. My beautiful nation … has fallen. England is no longer part of Christendom.

I come here in prayer – don’t do what we did! Keep the churches full … keep the Marxists away.

We took Christ out of our schools … we took Christ out of our public life – don’t do the same!

I thank God that you have your First Amendment that protects you, and your Second Amendment to back that up. But not all your politicians believe in those Amendments.

The Marxists want to erode your Constitution because they forget that your rights do not come from government, they come from God.

Jesus Christ may not be on the ballot box, but the Jezebel is, so you know what to do.

While his warning is foreboding, the centrality of his plea is that it’s not too late.

Today, we are faced with a Frostian divergence. One path will thrust us in the direction of the United Kingdom and its fading Judeo-Christian values; the other is the road of freedom, most certainly the road less traveled.

You’re in the Wrong Country

While the current pulse of Christianity in America is not in the same thready state as Robinson’s UK, the forced ordering of secularism in American society is clearly a high-priority project in the collective mind of progressives.

That the fuel of the American Left is not merely atheistic, but rather anti-theistic should be axiomatic by now. Nonetheless, we can underscore the anti-Christian sentiment by way of an Obama-Clinton-Biden mash-up characterization of the Faithful as “deplorable garbage, clinging to their guns and their Bibles.”

And what do you do with such garbage? You take it out.

After an audience member shouted, “Jesus is Lord” at a recent rally for Kamala Harris, the radical Leftist presidential candidate looked up from the teleprompter and extemporaneously took out the garbage, saying, “You guys are at the wrong rally.”

The comment was made on the same day that she skipped the Catholic Al Smith Dinner, the first Democratic candidate to do so since Walter Mondale.

While it may be uncomfortable for many to admit, anti-Christianism is already proliferating throughout many corridors of the federal leviathan. If Harris wins and this persuasion cements even further in the District of Columbia, then it seems we may find out if Christianity in America can withstand the secularist waterboarding that broke once-Christian Europe.

The Rising of Lady Bedlam

Heeding Robinson’s warning, the nonvoting Christian must consider the fact that our country is also party to a Marxist-minded immigration strategy.

A Harris win would ensure that the Border Czar herself would continue the project of hewing gaping cavities into our southern boundary as throngs of people – widely interspersed with terrorists, children being sex trafficked, violent gang members, rapists, murderers, and prisoners from other nations — pour through.

The nonvoting Christian should understand that abstention is actually enablement. That he or she is handing bricks to help the Left construct the antithesis of Lady Liberty.

The Left’s Utopian vision of America doesn’t include Ellis Island nor our cherished Lady and her flame of freedom. In her stead is Lady Bedlam, a golden monstrosity rising from the southern desert who is 60 cubits high and six cubits wide. Proverbial prostration before it will be required of the citizenry as she opens the floodgates to the aforementioned mélange of people.

Standing at the doorstep of the Left’s surge to fundamentally transform America, we must re-envision the celebrated poem by Emma Lazarus transmuted to reflect their inimical immigration objectives — a version that could fittingly be titled “The New Colossal Mistake”:

Not like the giant bulwark of Vatican fame,

With encircling redoubts from gate to gate;

Here at our dust-engulfed, sunlit portals shall stand

A cackling woman with beacon flame

lighting prisoners’ way, and her name

Mother of Malefactors. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her wild eyes command

The dust-ridden border that two countries frame.

“Bring child sex traffickers! More fentanyl! cries she

With simpering smirk. “Give me your tired jihadists, your poor cartelists,

Your felonious masses yearning to transgress the free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming prisons.

Send these, the apartment-less Venezuelan gangs, tempest-inciters to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door to socialism!

And just like that, the vision ends and I sigh with Ebenezer – that was what the future could be – but Tuesday has not passed. Yet.

Christians, it’s not too late!
