#PrayforElPaso: El Paso Grieves After Shooting Leaves 20 Dead

By The Stream Published on August 3, 2019

A city grieves. Twenty people were killed Saturday and dozens in a mass shooting at a mall in El Paso, Texas. The suspected gunman is in custody.

El Paso police have put out an urgent call for blood donors.

May God be with the people of El Paso and our nation.

The gunman opened fire outside a Wal Mart at the Ceilo Vista mall, then entered the store continuing his rampage. Witness Vanessa Saenz described the shooter as dressed in cargo pants and wearing ear protectors. She told ABC News he looked like he was dancing. Another described him as seeming as if to “be on a mission.”

President Trump tweeted the “total support” of the federal government, saying “God be with you all!”

2020 Democratic candidate Beto O’Roarke cancelled a campaign appearance to rush back to his former congressional district. Other 2020 candidates weighed in, with the predominate theme being further gun control action.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas.

As for a potential motive, Twitter is alive with talk the suspect is a white nationalist who left a manifesto. Other talk surrounds Antifa’s targeting of El Paso this week for a violent “Border Resistance Insurgence.”

It is far too soon to know the truth, beyond the fact that evil exists. And at this hour people are hurting. Please join us in praying for the people of El Paso … and a grieving nation.
