Trump Tweets, Scaramucci Speaks

President Trump has a new communications director, a new press secretary, but the same ol’ love of Twitter.

In a Sunday afternoon double-dose of tweets, Trump took 140-character aim at “the phony Russian witch hunt” and wayward Republicans.

In the first, the President said that “two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!”

Five minutes later, he complained the lack of support and protection from Republicans, “even some that were carried over the line on my back.”

Sunday’s social media offering came a day after Trump unleashed a torrent of tweets

Trump referenced a report he’d been asking about the possibility of pardoning family members, associates, even himself in connection with the Russian business. The President noting that while he does have the power to pardon, there’s no need “when the only crime so far is LEAKS against us.”

He singled out last week’s Washington Post story about conversations Jeff Sessions reportedly had with Russia’s ambassador. The story included information the Post says came from an intercepted communication between the ambassador and Moscow. Leaking that information is a crime.

He also mentioned an earlier leak in a New York Times story that U.S. General Tony Thomas says blew a mission to kill ISIS leader Abu Al-Baghadi in 2015.

Once again, Trump ripped the lack of investigation into Hillary Clinton for her assorted nefarious Russian dealings. He also pointed out how son Don Jr. had made public emails connected to his 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer, while “Crooked Hillary Clinton deleted (& acid washed)” her emails.

While the President has a new communications team, the weekend tweets show Trump isn’t about to stop speaking for himself. Scaramucci admitted as much while making the rounds of the Sunday talk shows. He told Fox News Sunday, the former reality show star is “one of the most effective communicators that has ever been born. And we’re going to make sure we get that message out to the American public.”

While, Scaramucci made clear he would not try to change the President’s style or his social media habits, he is looking for new ways the White House can present the President. As he told Fox News Sunday, “I have in my pocket a radio studio, a television studio, and a movie studio. The entire world has changed; we need to rethink the way we’re delivering our information.”
