Planned Parenthood Sting Video #10: It’s Time to Get Uncomfortable

By Amelia Hamilton Published on September 15, 2015

While it may surprise my Facebook friends, I don’t like to get political in my private online space. I don’t want to post stories about abortion, I don’t want to talk about the evils of socialism or even the state of the 2016 GOP field. But I do. It is incredibly uncomfortable for me to discuss such things there, and I dread the conflict that I know it will likely bring. Whenever I post something “political,” it feels like a ticking time bomb sitting there on my page.

Sometimes, the bomb goes off. While I always hope for respectful discussion, sometimes people get mean. I’ve been unfriended by people who had been close friends for years (but maybe I shouldn’t be surprised).

The feedback isn’t all angry and negative, of course. I frequently get private messages and texts from friends telling me they’re glad I post that information, that they’re glad somebody is standing up and saying what needs to be said. While I appreciate the support, we are past the point where we can support each other in private. We need to stand up and be counted. We need to get uncomfortable.

Today, a new undercover video was released exposing Planned Parenthood. This video, the tenth released by the Center for Medical Progress, features PP employees blithely discussing the sale of “fresh” body parts from aborted babies. Babies robbed of their future in the name of convenience and profit. Ten videos that show how deplorable the abortion industry is. Ten chances to take a stand on abortion in a public way.

The press release for today’s video offered this:

The fourth episode in a new documentary web series and 10th video by The Center for Medical Progress features several top-level Planned Parenthood executives discussing the organization’s secretive practices around aborted fetal parts harvesting. The video includes comments from Deborah VanDerhei, the National Director of the organization’s Consortium of Abortion Providers, describing the harvesting of fetal body parts as “donation for remuneration.”

It goes on to say:

Vanessa Cullins, the Vice President of External Medical Affairs, seems fully aware of the criminal exposure that fetal body parts sales present to Planned Parenthood: “This is important. This could destroy your organization and us, if we don’t time those conversations correctly,” she tells a prospective buyer.

As explosive as these videos are, we all know that the media isn’t going to cover what needs to be covered, that the average American isn’t going to hear what’s happening in our country. Mainstream media aside, Americans increasingly get their news from social media, especially Facebook and we are too nervous to post about controversial things. We can no longer remain silent.

There are countless other issues, countless other opportunities. Have you taken an opportunity to take a stand? I don’t mean every day and every opportunity. I mean have you taken a stand at all

I long for the day when my Facebook can be nothing but telling people about my trip to Target and posting silly memes and pictures of my dog. He’s very handsome. But now is not that day, because we do not live in such days as befit silence.

Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” We are facing evil, and it’s time to do something.
