Peyton Manning Retires from Pro Football, Quotes 2 Timothy 4:7

After 18 years in pro football, Peyton Manning is saying goodbye.

On Monday, the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl-winning quarterback held a press conference in Englewood, Colorado, to tell his fans and supporters that he’s wrapping up his Hall of Fame-worthy career. However, he does not see this as the end. “I’m totally convinced that the end of my football career is just the beginning of something I haven’t even discovered yet,” he said. “Life is not shrinking for me, it’s morphing into a whole new world of possibilities.”

The emotional Manning had trouble steadying his voice as he thanked mentors and friends from over the years, saying he had no regrets. He’d prepared and gave the game his all.

Manning finished his retirement speech by quoting 2 Timothy 4:7, saying he’d “fought a good fight,” finished his football race, and after 18 years, it was time.

And for his fans?

“God bless all of you,” he said, “and God bless football.”

On Sunday, Peyton’s brother, Super Bowl-winning New York Giant quarterback Eli Manning narrated an ESPN tribute to his big brother.
