Newt Gingrich Open to Returning as House Speaker

By The Editors Published on October 9, 2015

Former Rep. Newt Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House from 1995-1999, said this week that he would be open to returning to his position of leadership if called upon by fellow Republicans.

As Jonah Goldberg noted late last month, “There is nothing in the Constitution that says the speaker must be an elected member of the House.” Therefore, Gingrich could conceivably resume his duties as Speaker without making an initial return to Congress, even though that scenario has never unfolded in the history of American politics.

The Hill has more on Gingrich’s potential Speaker candidacy.
