New Mini-Documentary Tells the Touching Story of How Ted Cruz’s Father Came to Faith
In the hustle and bustle of policy stands and attack ads there was a powerful moment on the campaign trail last August that never made the network evening news or cable panels. It took place at a Ted Cruz rally in Murfreesboro, Tenn. “I was told Pastor Galey Wiley was here,” Cruz said. Then his voice began to tremble, “I haven’t seen Brother Wiley since I was a kid. Brother Wiley led my dad to the Lord.”
Cruz has often told the story of how his father Rafael, lost and prone to drink, had left his mother and young children, but through the power of Christ found his way home again. The decision that would set a new course for the Cruz family, leading Rafael into ministry and young Ted ultimately on a path toward the White House.
Now, in a new video, Rafael Cruz and Pastor Wiley reunite to tell the story in their own words, and Sen. Cruz recounts how his own faith journey has molded him, his family and his conservative views. Ted Cruz Faith in Action also features the candidate providing “refreshing assurance about how his Christian beliefs and principles will guide him as President.”
For a further look at Ted Cruz’ faith walk, The Stream published an article titled “What Makes Ted Tick?,” featuring the Texas senator’s appearance at the North Texas Presidential Forum at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
